Local galloper HIGHGROUND has hit the ground running this time in and looks the best of the day in this contest. Last start, the Cluster gelding came off a first-up win here when he stepped-up to Class 2 company and impressed when finishing second, beaten a length behind Kick On Command (the $1.60 race favourite that day). Today, he drops sharply in grade and will strip even fitter after those two runs. Ryan Wiggins has the reins today and boasts a 53% success rate with the Nick Walsh stable. Already a two-time winner on his home track, he looks the goods here.

The John Manzelmann-trained SIBERIAN ROUTE is third-up today and in today’s small field, looks the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Hinchinbrook gelding came off a good win in BM58 company on his home track at Mackay when he lined-up here a harder Class 3 contest on this track. He beat all but one home that day. Running his last 600m, a whisker faster than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He meets similar company today as he steps up to the mile trip for the first time. Already a winner when third-up, he looks the testing material here.
