Race 6: No.5 GOLDEN MILE ($4.20 with Neds)

James Cummings saddles-up GOLDEN MILE here and second-up, looks the one to beat. Last start, the Astern colt came off a lengthy 20-week break when he lined-up in the Group 3 Up-And-Coming Stakes (1300m) on this track. He came from last on the turn to beat all but Kibou to the line that day. He ran the trip out, 6.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, a new personal best and the best last-start effort in this line-up. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Ideally drawn in gate two here and fitter for that first-up run, the Godolphin galloper will take a ton of beating here.

Race 3: No.6 FIRST LIGHT ($8.50 with Unibet)

The Chris Waller-trained FIRST LIGHT has been knocking on the door of late and looks all set here to bring up his first win on Australian soil. Last start, the Irish-bred galloper beat all but one home in a BM78 Hcp, here over 2000m. That was his fourth Australian start and he is now stepping up to what looks like a more suitable distance for the four-year-old. He maps to settle near mid-field from gate three and already a winner over the journey, he looks right in the mix at odds.

Race 4: No.8 MORETHANNUMBERONE ($17 with Palmerbet)

There’s some value to be had here with the Annabel Neasham-trained MORETHANNUMBERONE looking a better than even chance of a podium finish here at double-figure odds. Last start, the More Than Ready gelding wasn’t all that far away when finishing third in a BM72 Hcp over the mile trip at Warwick Farm. He ran the last 600m, 7.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He does no early work here jumping form gate two and rock-hard fit now after six starts this time in, he will give this a real shake at each-way odds.
