BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.5  FIRE  ($2 with Ladbrokes)

Team Hawkes saddle-up FIRE here and in top form this time in, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the Fastnet Rock gelding was second-up and coming off a win when he beat all but one home in a BM84 over 1100m down the Flemington straight. He looked home passing the 100m mark, but was grabbed in the shadows of the post, having to settle for second prize. He ran the trip, in personal best time, covering the journey, 8.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by 3 lengths. Down in grade here, William Pike has the reins and with a clear run home, he should prove hard to run down.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.6  BLAZE A TRAIL  ($4.80 with Neds)

The Maher & Eustace-trained BLAZE A TRAIL lines-up here a winner of two starts this time in and looks well placed for back-to-back victories. Last start, the son of Criterion came off a disappointing unplaced finish in a BM84 at Caulfield when he turned it all around to take out the Mildura Cup over 1400m. He comes to Rosehill with a good record at the track, scoring podium finishes in three of his six starts here. At his peak after three runs this preparation, he will take beating here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.9  HELL I AM  ($13 with bet365)

The John O’Shea-trained HELL I AM has enjoyed a good preparation for this and looks set for a big effort here. Last start, the Hellbent gelding finished best to take out a BM72 Hcp over 1250m at Canterbury. Third-up that day, he ran a new personal best, covering the trip, 3.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Reece Jones is the sole apprentice riding in this contest and has the reins on this three-year-old. He is drawn wide but with a little luck, he can cross and settle near mid-field. With a trouble-free run to the line, he can gave this a real shake at odds.
