BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 14 STARIANNE – ($2.40)
A few unknowns with some first starters in action here but willing to have a go on STARIANNE, who was impressive at her debut at Sandown back in June. That came over the 1300m and she did a heap wrong, bombing the start in a slowly run race before running on strongly to just miss behind Hoops. The daughter of Sebring ran some slick late splits that day on the Heavy surface, despite laying in. Market support here suggests that she should be ready.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 8 FOR REAL LIFE – ($4.60)
FOR REAL LIFE can go close in Race 7 of the day. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper dropped back in trip on August 10 to the 1000m and settled well back but was strong at the end to land 5th behind Duchy Of Savoy on a Soft deck. This looks easier and she went six lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race, which are the second best last start figures of any runner. She is another that has attracted support in the betting and just needs to negotiate the wide barrier with Blake Shinn on board.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 1 CLAP – ($5)
CLAP looks to have come back in good order this time around and can close the day out as a winner. The five-year-old was a dominant winner in a 0-64 race at Sale when resuming before heading to town and filling the exacta behind Saint Bathans. He led them up that day at a nice speed before just being picked off late in the piece. That was in a BenchMark 70 and he drops slightly in grade for this assignment. Look for him to work across from the barrier and the 2kg claim for Kiran Quilty gets him down to a winnable weight.
