Sandown Tips 7/12/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No. 12 SMULLEN- ($5)

Race 2 is a Maiden over the 1400m and SMULLEN can improve off a debut effort that saw him finish 5th behind Zouthur over the 1200m on November 23. The three-year-old land within a length of the winner in that race and might have finished closer with more room in the straight. He gets out to the 1400m and will take improvement from his debut run, while he has been steady in the betting. Blake Shinn takes the ride on the son of Pierro.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No. 4 POCKET CHANGE- ($5)

With the early scratching on Defining, POCKET CHANGE can take advantage. The four-year-old resumed at the Lakeside circuit on November 23 over the 1200m and settled back in the field of 12 before running on for 3rd behind Vermentino, going a healthy 6.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark. Second up last time he was a winner over the 1400m at Bendigo before performing well behind Umgawa in the $200,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Flemington. Alana Kelly sticks on board and might look to position a little closer this time around.

Best Value 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 8 No. 12 NETANYAHU- ($12)

NETANYAHU just needs to overcome the wide barrier to be a big factor in the final race of the day at Sandown. The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained galloper has had two starts this prep for a win at Pakenham over the 1200m when resuming before getting out to the 1400m at Lakeside and sticking on well to land the exacta behind Saint Of Katowice. He was solid third up last time at Hillside and if Michael Dee can find a spot in the early stages then the pair can fight out the finish.
