BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.1 MOON STORIES ($2 with Palmerbet)
Kembla Grange galloper MOON STORIES is unbeaten at the track and trip and in the small field here, is our best of the day. Last start, the Odyssey Moon gelding was second-up off a six-month absence when he when he finished just behind the placegetters in a strong Open Class Hcp over the mile trip on his home track. He ran it out, 1.4 lengths slower than benchmark, a new personal best for him and more than 10 lengths better than this field managed at their last start. Jess Taylor remains aboard today and with the massive drop in grade here, the four-year-old looks the goods.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.2 ALMOST PERSUADED ($3.90 with Palmerbet)
Trained at Canberra by Rob Potter, ALMOST PERSUADED is a model of consistency and looks well placed here to keep the podium finishes coming today. Last start, the Casino Prince mare was third-up when she destroyed her rivals in a BM58 over 1400m at Goulburn. On a Heavy 9 that day, she crossed the line 3.5 lengths ahead of the 11-strong field, leading from barrier to box. She ran her last 600m, 4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here, while posting the fastest final 200m sectional for the race. She has seen this track twice previously and finished runner-up on both occasions and today looks all set to go one better here and take home the chocolates.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.2 MERC ($7 with bet365)
Second-up today from the Barbara Joseph stables, MERC has hit the ground running this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can go on with it in this contest. Last start, the Knight Exemplar gelding was fresh off a lengthy 19-week break when he took no prisoners in winning a BM58 Hcp over 1000m at Goulburn. First-up, he set a new personal best, running the trip out, 2 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this line-up. He has raced here six times previously (and each start was over today’s trip), for a win and two runner-up finishes. He has placed when second-up and is a four-time winner over the 1000m sprint. After the claim, he carries the same weight as last start and with a little luck in running, he can give this a real shake today at odds.
