BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.3  AKEED  ($7 with Palmerbet)

Moruya galloper AKEED boasts a good record on the Bega track and in great touch this time in, looks a genuine player in this contest. Last start, the Akeed Mofeed gelding came off a win here when he finished third in the Moruya Town Plate, here again over 1200m. He did well to find the podium that day, carrying 60.5kgs in the race. Shaun Guymer jumps aboard today for his second ride on the seven-year-old and while drawn wide (11), his early gate speed has him mapping to settle better than mid-field. He should be at his peak for this after five runs back and already a track and distance winner, he looks in the mix at odds today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.6  NIECES AND NEPHEWS  🥈  ($18 with Palmerbet)

Always be wary when Barbera Joseph’s camp come to town and here she saddles-up a trio of runners where we are running with the consistent NIECES AND NEPHEWS who stands out as great value in this year’s Cup. Last start the Zariz gelding came off a hat-trick of top-two finishes when he finished fourth in the Cowra Cup over the mile at Orange. Carrying 58kgs, he overraced badly that day and did well to finish where he did. Ryan Bradley has enjoyed the most success of late with the seven-year-old, boasting two wins and a runner-up finish from his four rides to date, and after his claim today, the galloper drops 6.5kgs from that Cowra Cup effort and carries 2.5kgs under the limit here. He finished unplaced in this race last year but fitter and in better form now, he looks a solid each-way chance in this year’s contest.
