BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 14 TOAST THE DEEL – ($3.60)
We did like the barrier trial of TOAST THE DEEL prior to her debut which was run at Oakbank. The market had opened short enough, so we opted to sit out and watch her from that wide draw. She was away evenly with them before Ben Price allowed her to come back in an effort to get in somewhere. Toast The Deel did seem to handle the downhill run okay for her first attempt. She got into that nice low action on straightening with a lot of ground still to make up. Toast The Deel ran through the line okay and has found a nice race-shape to break through with.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 1 No. 4 WARRANDYTE ROAD – ($7.50)
The rack, stack and pack ride from Alana Livesey gave her opposition little chance against WARRANDYTE ROAD here last start. The ride itself was a thing of beauty to watch with the race on offer for those showing initiative. There would appear little pace here again, though we can expect some pressure to come from Aesculus and Quietly Spoken. Would think Livesey will have to roll forward again from a similar draw as the order works itself out. Warrandyte Road has only been lightly raced with both of his wins coming here on his home track. He was out to the trip for the first time that day and Peter Moody keeps him to the same.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 4 KUTAYHA – ($16)
Happy to follow the Richard and Chantelle Jolly team as they leg Jake Toeroek aboard KUTAYHA. They’ve had this horse for a prep now since receiving Kutayha out of the hands of Chris Waller. Kutayha was beaten a long way in a strong 1400 metre race at Murray Bridge when resuming last time in. He improved sharply off that run to place over a mile in another good field second-up. The team have given Kutayha a couple of trials this time, the latest being a casual stroll out in front. We’re not worried about the time; it was just good to see him jump well and put himself into the run. There’s no genuine speed here in a nightmare of a pace map to workout. Early initiative will go a long way while Kutayha holds the ability to surprise.
