Race 2:  No.2  PYRAMID OF FIRE  ($3.70 with Palmerbet)

The Cameron Crockett-trained PYRAMID OF FIRE is in good touch this time in (without winning) and three starts back, now looks ready to win. Last start, the Sizzling gelding came off back-to-back runner-up finishes when he settled too far back and couldn’t reel them in, finishing fourth in a 1000m Maiden at Quirindi. A slow start contributed to that defeat. Today, Jake Pracey-Holmes has the reins as the four-year-old draws perfectly in gate three. From there, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen (with cover) and from there, should be close enough to lay down a challenge. The Scone-based galloper says goodbye to the lugging bit, nose roll and tongue tie today which could also play a part in his performance. He looks in the mix here.

Race 7:  No.5  OUR BOY OLLIE  ($5 with bet365)

The locally-trained OUR BOY OLLIE has come back in top form this time in and after breaking the shackles now looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the Outreach gelding shook off the Maiden monkey when second-up, he clobbered his opposition in a 1200m Maiden on this track. Putting 2.5 lengths on them over the line, he ran the trip out, 5.7 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up by more than 4 lengths. Jarrod Woodhouse sticks with him today, he just has to contend with the wide draw. The speed map shows it is a bit of a lottery as to where this field will settle, but if he can secure a clear run to the line, he should prove hard to hold out here.

Race 6:  No.8  STORMY PLUCK  ($6 with BlueBet)

Muswellbrook galloper STORMY PLUCK is no stranger to this track and after four improving starts this preparation, is capable of showing up here. Last start, the Pluck mare scored her second podium finish this time in when she beat all but one home in a BM58 Hcp over 1350m on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. She covered the journey, 5.8 lengths slower than benchmark, still 4 lengths better than her rivals here. She also posted the fastest final 800m sectional for the race. Rachel Murray is in charge today where the mare has drawn well in gate three. She maps to settle better than mid-field from there and should enjoy a nice tow into the race. Placed once in three starts here to date, she will be rock-hard fit for this and with a trouble-free run, she looks a genuine contender today at odds.
