Race 6:  No.6  SEGUSO  ($2.15 with Ladbrokes)

Cody Morgan has SEGUSO engaged here who is fresh off a 10-week break and looks the goods for victory today. Last start, the Redoute’s Choice gelding had his first start for the Morgan stable after transferring from Grahame Begg’s Cranbourne operation and missed by a whisker when beating all but one home in a 1000m sprint at Warren. Finally finding clean air inside the last 200m, he hit the line strongly, only to be denied victory by the shortest possible margin. He managed to record the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. Morgan has removed the blinkers today as regular stable rider Jasper Franklin takes the reins for the first time. Better suited over the 1200m, boasting two wins and as many minor placings from five starts at the trip, with a trouble-free run today, he looks the testing material here.

Race 2:  No.2  SABIE PARK  ($3.30 with TAB)

Local trainer Cody Morgan saddles-up SABIE PARK here who looks well placed for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Kermadec gelding bounced back from a disappointing effort at Newcastle when he produced a whirlwind finish to take out a BM66 Hcp, here over the mile trip. Coming from last on the turn, the five-year-old swamped the 10-strong field to arrive just in time and take home the major prize. He ran the last 600m, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race as well. A similar challenge awaits him today and drawn even better here, he looks the one to beat again.

Race 8:  No.8  BRIEFLY  ($6 with Neds)

Local galloper BRIEFLY is second-up today and ticks all the boxes here to be considered a genuine contender for the chocolates in this contest. Last start, the Testa Rossa mare resumed from a 10-week spell when she finished off nicely to take home third prize in a Class 3 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. She did it tough on the turn, having to weave through traffic but once clear, Mikayla Weir wound her up and finished strongly in the end. She enjoys racing here, boasting all career podium finishes on this track (three wins and as many minor placings), and today is reunited with Grant Buckley who was aboard for three victories to date. Already a winner when second-up, if she can cross and settle early from her wide gate, the five-year-old can give this a real shake today.
