Race 4:  No.4  VALORIA  ($2.60 with Neds)

The Paul Messara-trained VALORIA sees the Tamworth track for the first time today and second-up will strip fitter and be in the hunt for the major prize here. Last start, the Maurice gelding was on fresh legs after a lengthy 17-week break when he did a mighty job to grab third prize in a 1000m Maiden on his home track. Drawing gate nine (of 13), he was trapped four-wide (no cover) and had to weave through traffic to secure that podium finish. He ran his last 600m, 2.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field by more than 4 lengths. Aaron Bullock returns for the ride today where he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to box-seat on settling. Fitter for that first-up run, he looks ideally-placed here and should prove hard to beat.

Race 2:  No.6  BARELLAN BANDIT  ($5 with Palmerbet)

Scone-based galloper BARELLAN BANDIT has a glowing record here and second-up today will be hard to beat. Last start, the American-bred gelding resumed off a 10-week spell when he finished just behind the placegetters in the Guyra Cup (1400m) at Armidale. Coming from well back on the turn, he finished off strongly, beaten just over a length on the line. Grant Buckley returns for today’s assignment after steering the six-year-old to victory three times previously. He gets all the favours from gate two as he maps to be box-seating on settling. His three starts here have ended with two wins and a runner-up cheque and already a winner when second-up, he looks the pick of the crop today as generous odds.

Race 8:  No.2  KEEP ME LOYAL  ($5.50 with Palmerbet)

Inverell galloper KEEP ME LOYAL also boasts a good record here and currently in good touch, looks a real threat to this field today. Last start, the Exosphere gelding came off a Class 1 victory on his home track when he took his place in a BM58 Hcp at Muswellbrook and beat all but one to the line that day over the 1000m sprint. Ben Looker is legged aboard for the first time today as the five-year-old steps-up in grade. He drops in weight and from a good gate (3), maps to settle just behind the speed. With a trouble-free run today, he can give this a real shake at odds.
