BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.3 PRINCE AKEEM ($3.50 with Unibet)
Newcastle galloper PRINCE AKEEM has found the podium in five of his past six starts and is well placed here to continue the trend today with another win on the cards. Last start, the Polarmore gelding was last on the turn and had to weave through traffic before find clean air where he finished a gallant third in a BM66 Hcp over 1500m at Muswellbrook. He ran the last 600m, just under a length slower than benchmark, the best here. Drawn nicely today in gate two, he gets the gun-run form there and the chance to atone for last start.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.4 DUBLE MEMORY ($3.40 with Palmerbet)
Taree-based galloper DUBLE MEMORY has a good record here and in good touch of late, looks a winning chance today. Last start, the Dubleo gelding was sent out a $16 chance and almost pulled it off when beating all but one home in a Class 1/Maiden Plate over the mile on his home track. He set a new personal best that day, running the 1600m out, 6.2 lengths slower than benchmark, also the best in this line-up. His resume shows a win and four minor placings from his ten career-starts to date and Andrew Gibbons was on board for all of those as he remains in the saddle for this contest. His only win to date was on this track and he looks right in the mix again today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.2 PARADISE ISLAND ($3.70 with Palmerbet)
The Kris Lees-trained PARADISE ISLAND does her best work when fresh and first-up here, looks ideally placed to deliver another blow in this contest. Last start, the Holler mare was fresh off a six-month absence when she easily accounted for a BM58 field over 1012m at Coffs Harbour. She ran a new personal best that day, running the trip, 3.8 lengths slower than benchmark, the best in this 12-strong field. Drawn the fence here, she gets the gun-run and has Dylan Gibbons returning for the ride (after steering her to victory two starts back at Newcastle). Her first up record is first-class, with tree of her four podium finishes all coming on fresh legs. She has a trial run at Gosford under her belt and going by her resume, she should be tough to beat today.
