The Port Macquarie-based BUCK PHAROAH has been consistent throughout his ten-start career (boasting eight podium finishes to date) and fourth-up here looks a genuine contender for the top prize today. Last start, the American Pharoah gelding was third-up where he stepped-up in distance (1000m to 1250m) and made good ground late to grab third prize in a BM66 Hcp on this track. That was a sound effort, carrying 61.5kgs that day. Aaron Bullock returns for today’s assignment, having won previously on the four-year-old and he gets the favours from gate three as he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Rock-hard fit after three runs in and already a winner at the track and distance, he looks the testing material here.

Local galloper CRASH’N’BASH has come into form at the right time and sporting a gear change here looks a serious contender the major prize today. Last start, the Real impact filly improved on her first three runs this time in when she beat all but one home in a Grafton Maiden over 1420m. Beaten less than half a length that day, she ran the trip out, 5 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here by 4 lengths and set a new personal best as well. She also recorded the fastest final 200m for the race. She steps-up to the mile today with trainer, Karen Owen, putting the blinkers on for the first time, and keeps daughter Madeline in the saddle for today’s contest. Drawn the fence, she does no early work and with four starts behind her this preparation, she should be at her peak and doing her best work late.

Race 6:  No.2  WONDER BRAHMA  ($6 with Unibet)

Gosford galloper WONDER BRAHMA is in great touch this time in and looks poised to bring up his third career victory today. Last start, the Darci Brahma gelding made it two wins from his past three starts when he took out a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Port Macquarie. That was his second top-two finish in as many starts at the track. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Andrew Gibbons returns for the ride and he boasts a good record with the seven-year-old having landed three podium finishes from his three rides to date. He has come back with a vengeance this campaign and already a winner here, he looks in great shape to challenge for victory again.
