BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.6  PICCANINNI  ($3.60 with Palmerbet)

Michael Nolan could be in for a big night as he saddles-up PICCANNINI here who is in search of his third win at Clifford Park. Last start, the El Nino gelding was third-up and went one better by taking out a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1000m. He ran that out, 1.3 lengths slower than benchmark, a new personal best and the best in this field. He also clocked the fastest final 800m and 200m sectionals for the race. Fourth-up tonight, coming off a win and dropping in class, Steph Lacy sticks with him and he will take beating in this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8:  No.5  HEART OF A LION  ($2.50 with bet365)

Locally-trained by Mark Currie, HEART OF A LION is unbeaten at the track and is shooting for the hat-trick tonight. Last start, the Niagara mare stepped-up from a Class 2 win to face Class 4 competition and won that just as easily. With Karl Zechner on board that night, she sat third, one off the fence (without cover) and in the run home, left them all standing to go on and win by almost three lengths, with plenty in reserve. Dropping back in grade tonight, she does carry extra weight but that shouldn’t be an issue over the same trip here. Zechner sticks with her and ideally drawn in gate two, she gets the gun-run from there and will take ton of beating tonight.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2:  No.4  ROSE PIN  ($9 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by Michael Nolan, ROSE PIN is three starts into this preparation and looks ideally placed here for back-to-back victories tonight. Last start, the Worthy Cause mare made it third time lucky when she took out a BM60 Hcp, here over the mile trip. That was her second career win and win number two at the Clifford Park track. Drawn the fence tonight, she gets the gun run and maps to be box-seating on settling. Steph Lacy has her first ride on the four-year-old and there’s enough boxes ticked here to be taking a piece of the each-way odds (currently) on offer.
