Race 6:  No.7  HEIRBORN  ($4.40 with bet365)

The Sharlee Hoffman-trained HEIRBORN has found his mojo at the right time and looks a super chance of back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Charm Spirit gelding did the right thing by favourite backers when he comfortably took out the Innisfail Cup over 2000m. No stats are available for that run but he did cross the line more than a length in front of them that day. Today, he returns to Cluden Park where he boasts three podium finishes from his four visits to Townsville and today he is reunited with ‘lethal’ Lacey Morrison who is riding in great form of late. Drawn nicely in gate five today, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and with a trouble-free run, he can finish over the top of them here.

Race 7:  No.2  SILENT EXPLORER  ($3.30  with Palmerbet)

This could turn into a two-horse war with the Steve Massingham-trained SILENT EXPLORER taking on the track specialist Yes Dream (who is first-up today). Last start, the Lope De Vega gelding franked his win at Innisfail when he destroyed his opposition in an Open Hcp over 1250m on his home track at Cairns. Carrying 60kgs that day, he ran the fastest final 800m sectional as he put five lengths on them across the line. He also enjoys the Townsville track, with his nine starts here resulting in two wins and six minor money finishes. Masayuki Abe is two from two with the seven-year-old and has the job again today. I favour Massingham’s galloper here who just may have the edge with race fitness.
