BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.2 YES DREAM ($3.40 with bet365)
Atherton trainer Michael Lee brings YES DREAM to Cluden Park again where the four-year-old is unbeaten in five starts at the track and looks poised to make it six today. Last start, I made the mistake of tipping against the Dream Ahead gelding (running with Steve Massingham’s Silent Explorer, who finished fourth in the event), and watched on as ‘lethal’ Lacey Morrison made me pay and booted home the $1.70 favourite that day. Morrison has a 100% strike rate with the four-year-old, boasting six wins from as many rides. She is aboard again today and from gate six, maps to settle in the first half-dozen. The galloper has to carry an extra 2.5kgs today but his resume also shows he is two from two when second-up. Its hard to tip against such a strong record, so I won’t. He looks the best of the day.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.6 STYLE SEEKER ($4.20 with bet365)
The Steve Massingham-trained STYLE SEEKER has his first start for the new stable today and fresh off an eight-week let-up, looks well placed here to make it a winning debut. Last start, the Savabeel gelding ended a two-start preparation by taking out a Class 1 Hcp over 1690m at Ipswich. He led on settling and fought off the challenges to take home first prize in a narrow victory. Today he sees his first Nth Qld track and will jump from barrier three where he maps to settle in the first half-dozen. He has the experienced Ryan Wiggins on his back today and with a trouble-free run here, he could prove hard to hold out in this company.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.1 JOURNEY OF SONG ($6.50 with Palmerbet)
Another from the Steve Massingham stable is JOURNEY OF SONG who is third-up here and will be hell-bent on breaking his bridesmaid record at Cluden Park today. The Sebring gelding is two starts back after a year in the paddock and has finished just behind the placegetters in both starts since resuming. Last start, he took home fourth prize from a Class 3 Plate in a 950m sprint on his home track in Cairns. Nathan (Grubby) Day has been aboard since he returned to racing and has the job again today. The galloper has been to Cluden Park on five occasions, going home with five minor prize purses. Placed twice from four previous third-up runs, he does have fitness on his side today and from gate four, maps to settle mid-field with cover. With just a little luck on straightening, if he sees daylight, he should be finishing strongly here and is capable of breaking his hoodoo today.
