ANCHOR BET ⚓

Race 4:  No.2  MOLONGLE SURPRISE  ($1.55 with Palmerbet)

The locally-trained MOLONGLE SURPRISE is shining brightly on Nth Qld tracks and currently in top flight, it will take a smart one today to beat him to the line. Last start, the well-bred Bel Esprit gelding made it three from three in third-up appearances when he got the job done in a Class 6 Plate, here over the 1000m sprint. Sent out an easing $2.60 favourite, he finished best that day to grab victory on the line. He ran the trip out, 2.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 9 lengths. Yet to miss a podium finish at Cluden Park, he has racked-up four wins here to date and with the experienced Nathan Day on board, he stands out in the crowd and is our Anchor Bet for the day.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7:  No.1  TRICOLOGY  ($2.20 with bet365)

The Jared Wehlow-trained TRICOLOGY has been busy building a picket fence alongside his name lately and after four-straight wins, looks all set to make it five today. Last start, the four-year-old gelding gave supporters a fright (as a $1.45 chance) when he took out a 1600m Hcp in Open company on his home track at Rockhampton. In a four-horse event, he had to pull out all stops to get the decision as three of them hit the line together, with the gelding getting the bob-in to take the cash. He ran the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race that day. He sees the Cluden Park track for the first time today with Ash Butler in saddle who is two from two with the galloper to date. The stable remove the blinkers again and from gate seven here, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover. Winning form is good form and he looks just the ticket for this contest.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.2  PERFECT QUALITY  ($2.60 with BlueBet)

Having his first start for the local Graham Hughes stable, PERFECT QUALITY brings with him a resume full of minor placings (this preparation) which can all be outshined with a bold performance here today. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding made it a hat-trick of podium finishes when he beat all but one home (again) in a BM0-58 Hcp over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast. He covered that trip, 5.3 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Coming off a six-week let-up, expectations are high for a solid stable debut and has the experienced Frank Edwards in the saddle. Despite the (current) short quote, he still looks value at the price and has our money with him today.
