Wangaratta Tips 19/1/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 9 ROYAL INVADER – ($2.70)

A few unknowns here with a number of first starters in action but I suspect that ROYAL INVADER should be hard to beat. The Maher/Eustace galloper has had just the one career start with that coming back in April last year at Sandown over the 1000m. She settled back in the field of seven and gradually made ground to finish just a length off Hell Hound, while Port Albert was runner-up. The race produced a number of future winners and she went 1.5 lengths slower than standard, which is seven lengths above the class average for this.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 4 OAMANIKKA – ($6)

This looks to be a suitable assignment for OAMANIKKA. The six-year-old drops to BenchMark 58 and has finished off well in slowly run affairs at his past couple. The Chris Calthorpe-trained galloper was 4th at Werribee just before Christmas then was sent out at Geelong over the 1300m on January 4, producing the fastest last 600m to run 5th behind Savvy Sovereign. This is easier and he was a winner the only other time he appeared in a BM58. Jett Stanley claims the 3kg and the pair draw barrier 2.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No. 2 LE MESSAGER – ($4.40)

LE MESSAGER can go close in Race 8 of the day at Wangaratta. The four-year-old has had two runs this time in and was a winner on resumption at Hamilton before heading to Geelong and running 3rd behind Savvy Sovereign over the 1300m. The son of Headwater looks ready for the step up in journey and was a third up winner over the 1600m at Ballarat last time, improving five lengths on benchmark figures.
