Race 3:  No.3  WOLLOMBI  ($4.40 with Palmerbet)

The Team Snowden-trained WOLLOMBI is third-up today and looks well placed here in the small field for back-to-back victories. Last start, the Extreme Choice filly was second-up when she stepped-up in grade and proved too good for the BM72 field, taking out the 1400m event with Sam Clipperton in the saddle, having his fourth ride on the galloper. She ran her last 600m, 6.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by 5 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. She’s one from one at the track and distance and Clipperton sticks with her again, nicely drawn in gate five, she can get away with this today.

Race 4:  No.9  MIKASA  ($6 with bet365)

Coming in nicely at the weights here is the John Thompson-trained MIKASA who is in career-best form this time in and looks poised to create havoc for her rivals here today. Last start, the well-bred Maurice mare came off a BM64 (1900m) victory at Canterbury and had no luck at Kembla Grange where she beat all but one home against similar company over the longer 2400m trip. She overraced in the early stages, forcing Keegan Latham to push forward (prematurely), leaving her with left in the tank for the run home. It was still a courageous effort to be beaten just a neck on the line in the 14-strong field. Back to the city today, she steps-up in grade but drops 3kgs here and is reunited with Brock Ryan who boasts a win and three minor placings with the mare from his five previous rides. Rock-hard fit after four runs back, she looks right in the mix here today.

Race 6:  No.2  MISS FOX  ($11 with TAB)

Gosford galloper MISS FOX loves racing here (boasting three podium finishes from as many starts at the track) and at her peak today, she looks a genuine contender for the major prize at great odds. Last start, the Mossman mare drew the outside gate but still managed a top-three finish when she claimed third prize in a BM72 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint. She ran the trip out, 2.4 lengths quicker than benchmark and her last 600m, 8.9 lengths faster than standard, both stats being the best in this line-up. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Today, the barrier gods are smiling upon her as she gets the gun-run from gate one and after the claim from Dylan Gibbons, she carries no more weight than last start. Already placed three from three here, she looks well worth an each-way ticket today.
