BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.8  HOLLYWOOD NORTH  ($3.50 with Ladbrokes)

Chris Waller saddles-up HOLLYWOOD NORTH here who is second-up today and will relish the wet conditions. Last start, the Vancouver gelding was fresh off an 18-week break when he wasn’t that far away, finishing fourth in a BM72 Hcp over 1400m at Rosehill. Despite finding trouble in the concluding stages that day, he still ran his last 600m, 7.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Jason Collett sticks with him here and up slightly in grade, he drops 3kgs for this contest. Both career-wins to date have come on heavy tracks so the conditions are ideal for him today. Given a trouble-free run here, he should prove hard to hold out.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.2  AL AABIR  ($3.30 with Palmerbet)

The Chris Waller-trained AL AABIR is firing on all cylinders lately and lines-up here shooting for the hat-trick today. Last start, the three-year-old made it back-to-back victories when he took out a BM72 Hcp, here over the 2200m journey. He ran a personal best that day, covering the trip, 3.3 lengths quicker than benchmark and recorded the fastest final 400m and 200m sectionals as well. Now four starts into this campaign, the step up in distance here shouldn’t be an issue today. Brenton Avdulla remains in the saddle and already a winner here, he looks the one to beat again.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.3  WILLIAMSBURG ($3.80 with bet365)

Rosehill galloper WILLIAMSBURG is three starts into this preparation and proving to be a real mudlark, looks well placed for a shot at victory today. Last start, it was a case of third-time lucky as he took out the Listed Dulcify Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. On a Heavy 8 that day, he covered the final 600m, 5.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. He also ran the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. After all the early scratchings, his bad gate suddenly isn’t so bad with the field reduced to just ten runners (subject to more scratchings). Another Heavy 9 today will just enhance his chances as all four of his career wins have come on wet tracks. He is a two-time over the mile already and has Kerrin McEvoy sticking with him who boasts three wins from four previous rides with the Snitzel colt. Rock-hard fit today, he looks a real threat here.
