Race 3:  No.3  SHADOW VAMPIRE  ($5.50 with Unibet)

The Mark Newnham-trained SHADOW VAMPIRE has come good at his past couple and looks a real chance of bringing up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Impending gelding made it back-to-back victories when he franked his Maiden win and took out a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at Hawkesbury. He ran the last 600m, 4.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race, the last 200m in 10:92, which is travelling. He steps up in grade again today but looks ready for the challenge after putting 2.5 lengths on them last start, and had plenty left as well. He tends to settle back on the field but watch for a big finish from him here.

Race 6:  No.5  TIDAL IMPACT  ($8.50 with Palmerbet)

Wyong galloper TIDAL IMPACT sees the Farm for the first time today but fitter for two runs back, looks a genuine contender for the winner’s purse. Last start, the Shalaa mare had her first taste of city competition where she finished a gallant third, beaten a length on the line in a strong BM72 over 1100m at Canterbury. The riding instructions were changed that night where jockey Tim Clark was told to ride the mare further forward (which he did) as the four-year-old led on settling. In the run home, she was hounded by several challengers but stuck to her guns and fought on strongly for that third prize. Clark sticks with her today and from gate two, maps to settle in the first half-dozen, with options a plenty for Clark. He could lead or take a sit just behind them early. Either way, she is already a winner when third-up and should be rock-hard fit today for a shot at victory here at odds.

Race 7:  No.6  BARANOF  ($12 with bet365)

John Thompson saddles-up BARANOF here who only needs to deal with a wide gate to be a real contender in this contest. Last start, the Hinchinbrook gelding brought joy and splendour to his connections when after 17 race starts, he finally shook the ‘maiden monkey’ and broke through for his first career win in a 1300m affair at Kembla Grange. With Keagan Latham aboard for the first time, the four-year-old sat one out, one back and inside the last 250m, took the lead and left them to fight over the minors as he crossed the line three lengths ahead of the 12-strong field. Latham sticks with him today and although this is a step-up in grade, he has placed here previously and third-up today can only strip fitter. In great touch this preparation, he looks a genuine each-way chance in this contest.
