BEST BET 🏆
Race 4: No.8 REDWOOD SHADOW ($5.50 with Neds)
The Joe Pride-trained REDWOOD SHADOW has made the podium in all three starts this preparation and is now due for a win. Last start, the Redwood gelding made it a hat-trick of bronze medals when he finished third in a BM72 on the Kensington track at Randwick on a Heavy 8 that day. He ran his last 600m, 4.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field. Drawn the fence today, he gets the gun-run form there and maps to settle near mid-field. Nash Rawiller gets his first ride on the five-year-old and the stable have decided to put the blinkers back on for today’s contest. At his peak after three runs back and already a winner over the mile, he should take beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.2 DECADENT TALE ($4.60 with Unibet)
Newcastle galloper DECADENT TALE is in great touch this time in and looks set for a big performance in this contest. Last start, the Kermadec mare came off a hat-trick of wins when she stepped up to city class company at her first attempt over the 2400m. On the Kensington track at Randwick, she wasn’t disgraced when finishing third on a Heavy 8 that day. She set a new personal best, running the trip out, 7.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, second-best here to race-favourite Boyszee, whom she meets 4.5kgs better today (after the claim by Dylan Gibbons, who sticks by the mare here after riding her at her past two encounters). Nicely drawn in gate three, she carries just 1kg over the limit here and looks right in the mix.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.4 NEUTRON ($15 with bet365)
Gold Coast visitor NEUTRON is resuming from a lengthy 10-month absence today and on fresh legs, looks a genuine contender here at good odds. Last start, the Starcraft gelding ended his last preparation by finishing second in a BM72 Hcp over the mile at Doomben. He set a new personal best that day, running the 1600m out, 3.5 lengths quicker than benchmark which the best last start effort in this line-up. He has trialled since returning to work, winning his most recent hit-out. He sees the Warwick Farm track for the first time today and has Chad Schofield on board for the first time. He has placed in all four previous first-up appearances and is a two-time winner at the trip. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to settle just off the pace and (currently) at double-figure odds, he looks the best each-way ticket on the program today.
