Race 2:  No.2  RAVENCLAW

The Chris Waller-trained RAVENCLAW has been knocking on the door for a win lately and he looks well placed here to bring up that illusive victory today. Last start, the Irish-sired galloper recorded his third career runner-up finish when he beat all but home over 1100m on Randwick’s Kensington track. Nash Rawiller had him parked mid-field to the turn then passed all but Keep Your Cool in the run home, conceding the winner 2kgs in the event. He drops in weight here and has J.Mac as the new pilot. Five starts in now, he will be at his peak today and should give this a real shake.

Race 3:  No.6  PIRAEUS

Team Freedman saddle-up PIRAEUS here who is pounding the door down for a win this time in and with a new rider today, his luck could change enough to see him in the winner’s circle again. Last start, the Merchant Navy gelding rang-up his fourth-straight podium finish when he beat all but one home in a BM72 over 2110m at Warwick Farm. Settling mid-field, he secured a rails run on the turn and saving plenty of ground, soon chimed in to the battle up front. He took over inside the final 100m but couldn’t hold off the challenge from the winner in the end. Tommy Berry takes the reins for the first time today and now five starts into this campaign, he will be at peak fitness and looks a real threat to this field.

Race 7:  No.3  LE MELODY  

The Scone-based LE MELODY resumes off a lengthy six-month break today and making her track debut here, ticks enough boxes to stake a serious claim for victory in this contest. Last start, the Your Song mare ended her last preparation and last race start for Ballina trainer Cody Morgan when she finished fourth (of 12) in a BM85 over 1200m at Eagle Farm. She then transferred to the Stephen Lee camp and has trialled twice recently, winning both of them. Sam Clipperton is the new pilot today with the mare boasting an unbeaten record in four previous first-up appearances. She is also a five-time winner over the 1000m and with a clear run to the line today, she could give this field a real fright at odds today.
