Yarra Valley Tips 10/1/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 3 SHALILY- ($4.20)

Race 5 is a BenchMark 58 over the 1500m and SHALILY can go one spot better than a last start effort thaw saw her finish runner-up at the track and trip behind Henty. That came on December 23 and she settled midfield before running on to fill the exacta. The Danny O’Brien mare set a personal best by going 2.5 lengths slower than standard, which is the second best last start figure of any runner in this race. Form out of that race looks promising with one horse having a run since and scoring at Mornington. The daughter of Shalaa was an improver on figures at her only other third up run and gets the ride from Daniel Moor.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 7 No. 3 SILLY SALMON– ($4)

SILLY SALMON can go close in Race 7. The four-year-old has had seven weeks in between runs and was posted wide without cover at Moe back in November over the 1217m before sticking on in ok fashion for 6th behind Jenniferwish. He had excuses when resuming at Pakenham but has performed well on the fresh side in the past, finishing 3rd in some city class races. At his only other start at the track and trip, the Michael Huglin-trained galloper was a close up 4th in a BenchMark 64. He draws to save ground from barrier 1 and gets the ride from the 3kg claimer, Thomas Prebble, who has made a flying start to his career and is one from one for the stable.
