Dalby Racing Tips 31 Oct 2026: Milton Road Four Straight?

Overview

Milton Road arrives at Dalby on a three-race winning streak, and nothing else on Saturday’s card has a form line that clean. The S Hardy galloper has won each of its last three starts, including its only run in the past three months, and Isabel Jessop keeps the ride in the Australian Country Choice Handicap. If there is one horse on the Darling Downs that the rest of the card has to answer to, it’s this one.

Around it sits a typical Dalby programme: eight races from 1000m to 1400m, a track rated Soft, a Country Cup Challenge qualifier and a C1 to close. Course form is thin across the card, with only 36 of the 99 horses holding a start here, so these Dalby racing tips lean harder on recent form, weight and the stables that do well at this track. T J Dougall and P J Wallace both have strong local records, and Dougall has a pair of live chances in the same race. Read on for a view on every race, the bets we’d actually have, and the angles that matter in the multis.

Dalby: the setup

The going is listed as Soft, which suits the honest types who can carry their speed through a wet surface. Fields have thinned with scratchings in most races, so a few gates look kinder than they did on Friday.

Limited course form across today’s fields: only five runners have three or more starts at Dalby, and they are worth knowing.

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Mr Evans 4 2 3 50% 75%
Snugg 3 1 3 33% 100%
Cardiologist 3 1 2 33% 67%
Jakebrake 3 1 1 33% 33%
Rum Diary 4 1 1 25% 25%

The jockey picture is clearer. Jess Emmerson and Isabel Jessop have both ridden three winners here, while Mitch Goring and S Tierney have no wins from small books but keep finishing in the first three.

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Mitch Goring 7 0 4 0% 57%
S Tierney 8 0 4 0% 50%
Jess Emmerson 18 3 8 17% 44%

Hannah Richardson 18 1 6 6% 33%
Kayla Barker 17 1 4 6% 24%

Among the trainers, Troy Pascoe‘s record stands out for the wrong reason as much as the right one: seven placings from nine runners and not one winner. M A Kropp, T J Dougall and P J Wallace are the stables with both volume and strike rate.

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Troy Pascoe 9 0 7 0% 78%

Dalby race by race

Race 1: Join The Wheatmen Old Boys Club 2027 (Bm65), 12:22PM, 1000m

Two last-start winners, two very different set-ups. Panigale gets the inside gate and only 54kg; Manhattan Thunder jumps from barrier 6 with 56kg and a rider in Mitch Goring who has placed on four of his seven Dalby mounts.

We side with Panigale. It won last time out, has a win from its two most recent runs, and over 1000m on a Soft track the rail draw is worth a length on its own. K Lenton only needs to hold the fence and let the outside runners do the work. Manhattan Thunder is the danger: its form has been climbing (7, 4, 3, 6, 2, 1), and a horse that keeps improving like that rarely stops at one win. Terambi, with a win and two placings from three recent runs, is the one for the trifecta.

Win bet on Panigale, small saver on Manhattan Thunder.

Race 2: Ma Mcveigh Ag (Bm55), 1:02PM, 1000m

Mr Evans is the only horse in this race that has a real Dalby record, and it’s a good one: two wins and three placings from four visits. That’s the reason to forgive a sixth last start and a winless three months, and it still placed twice from five runs in that time. K J Sims brings it back to the track where it does its best work, and Goring’s placing rate here makes him a sensible booking.

The question is the 60.5kg. Almond Gold carries 58kg and won its only recent start, so it comes in with momentum that Mr Evans doesn’t have, and the A & T Sweeney stable has two wins from twelve runners here. Booya Boy is worth a spot underneath in trifectas given Troy Pascoe‘s habit of running placings at this track, though its own form (6, 0, 6, 6) gives you little else to hold on to.

Mr Evans each-way, Almond Gold the saver.

Race 3: Book Your Christmas Parties 10th December Mdn Plate, 1:42PM, 1200m

Which maiden is closest to breaking through? Chop Chop Go has the best claim on paper. Three placings from its last four runs, with form of 4, 4, 2, 3, 4, 3, says it turns up every time and just hasn’t found the race soft enough. Over 1200m on a rain-affected track, from barrier 7 with 55.5kg, that consistency is worth more than raw upside.

Hydrating is the one that could spoil it. It has placed in two of its three recent runs and ran second last start, and T B Thomas wins with more than a quarter of his Dalby runners. Lustful Belle (three placings from five) rounds out the frame chances, though barrier 12 is a hurdle.

Chop Chop Go each-way. Watch the market on Hydrating before you bet.

Race 4: Australian Country Choice Hcp, 2:22PM, 1200m

Milton Road has done everything asked of it. The form reads 1, 6, 5, 1, 1, 1, and the most recent of those wins came in its only run in the past three months, so it arrives fresh and in winning order. It goes around with 57kg, only half a kilo under the topweight now Coin Toss is out, and barrier 6 in a ten-horse field gives Jessop room to settle without getting caught wide.

Jessop is a key part of the case. She has ridden three winners from nineteen rides at Dalby and placed on seven of them, and she has the horse that keeps winning. Trainers rarely run a horse on a hat-trick into a race like this unless they think it is still improving, and nothing in this field has a better recent form line.

The danger is Warilla Gorilla. It won its only Dalby start and its form (1, 1, 2, 1, 3, 7) shows a horse that can win at this level. The concern is that seventh last time, its only run in three months, which raises a question about how it has come back. Nick Keal‘s runners have all placed here, though, so it can’t be ruled out. Mamaragan, with a win and three placings from five recent runs, is a likely place-getter at 52.5kg.

This is the race to bet. Galway Hussler, a winner on its only Dalby start, is scratched, and that leaves Milton Road as the clear best horse in the race. Win bet, and the anchor leg for any multi.

Race 5: 2026 “c” Grade Champions (Bm50), 3:02PM, 1200m

Two horses stand out, and the weights split them. Entitle has won twice from its last five runs and placed three times, but it lugs 61kg from barrier 11. Hawaiian Bloom gets 57.5kg, barrier 1, and a recent record of a win and three placings from four.

We’ll take Hawaiian Bloom. It has only had four starts in total (3, 1, 8, 3), so there should be more to come, and from the inside gate William Galloway can hold a forward spot with no need to use it early. Entitle is the danger, plain and simple: its recent form is the best in the race, and Maleah Hill has placed two of her three Dalby runners. If Entitle gets across from the wide draw without doing too much work, it wins.

Hawaiian Bloom to win, Entitle in the quinella.

Race 6: WR Cranes (Bm62), 3:40PM, 1400m

T J Dougall has two runners in this race, and both have a case. His Dalby record is strong: three winners and eight placings from fifteen runners, so more than half his horses here finish in the first three.

Standlee is the better of the pair on current form. Two wins and four placings from five runs since August is the strongest recent profile in the race, and barrier 2 sets it up for a run along the rail with Hannah Richardson. Snugg is the stablemate with the track record: placed in all three Dalby starts with a win among them, and it carries a kilo less at 58kg.

The outside threat is Drialle, which has also won twice in its last five runs but goes from barrier 9 with 61kg. Thief By Night won on its only visit here and is the value hope for exotics.

Standlee to win, with a quinella on the Dougall pair. Standlee is our banker for multis.

Race 7: Windsor Hotel Country Cup Challenge Qualifier Hcp, 4:22PM, 1400m

Can Grinzinger Knight carry 62.5kg to a second Dalby win? It won on its only visit here, has won one and placed in both of its recent runs, and Jess Emmerson has ridden three winners at the track. H R Richardson has won with two of his six runners here. It has every credential except the weight, and it gives away a lot of it, with most of the field on 54kg.

That weight gap is why Water Lad gets our vote. It also won on its only Dalby start, it has two wins and five placings from eight runs since August, and it races at 54kg from barrier 3. Forgive the ninth last start; the run before that was a win, and before that it ran second twice.

Lonergy is the each-way play. It has placed in both of its Dalby starts and finished in the first three in four of its last five runs without winning, a horse that keeps running into place money. Cardiologist (a win and two placings from three here, for a Kropp stable that places with nearly two-thirds of its Dalby runners) is the other danger.

Water Lad to win, Lonergy each-way.

Race 8: Graincott Farming Co Hcp (C1), 4:57PM, 1400m

My Shalona has had two recent runs, winning one and placing in both, and comes in off a win. With 56kg and barrier 2 in a field cut down by six scratchings, it should get the run of the race on the fence. Nick Keal has placed with all three of his Dalby runners and won with one, a small sample, but it fits the pattern of a trainer who only brings ready horses here.

New Prospect is the danger. It also won last start, has a win and two placings from four recent runs, and Jade Metcalfe rides at 56.5kg from barrier 6. Jakebrake has won here before and won one of its two recent runs, but K Yoshida is still looking for a first Dalby winner from twenty rides.

My Shalona to win, and we think it’s the value bet of the day once the market opens.

Where the money goes

NAP: Milton Road (Race 4, 2:22PM). Three wins on the bounce, a fair weight and a rider who knows how to win here. With a course winner scratched from the race, this is as good a chance as it will get.

Value: My Shalona (Race 8, 4:57PM). Last-start winner from a small stable with a perfect placing record at Dalby. Bookmakers hadn’t priced this race when we wrote this, but it should be bigger than its form deserves in a last race with plenty of names.

Banker: Standlee (Race 6, 3:40PM). Four placings from five recent runs and barrier 2. Use it as the second leg with Milton Road.

Each-way: Lonergy (Race 7, 4:22PM). Placed in four of its last five and in both Dalby starts. The win has been missing, but the place money keeps coming.

Course angle: T J Dougall at Dalby. More than half his runners here place, and he has both Standlee and Snugg in Race 6. With both in form, at least one should be in the finish.

If Milton Road makes it four straight here, it will be ready for something better than a Dalby handicap before the year is out.
