Overview
Bring Me Kash has won all three of his starts in the last 90 days, and on Saturday he drops in at 53kg in the Cricks Highway Hcp at Doomben. A fourth straight win on a Heavy track is a big ask, but nothing else on this card arrives in that kind of form.
There are ten races on a track rated Heavy, starting with a two-year-old scamper at 11:52AM and finishing with a BM85 over 1350m at 5:37PM (times AEDT, as on the site’s racecards). The scratchings have already bitten hard, with seven out of Race 4 and seven out of Race 7. These Doomben racing tips go race by race, but only the opening race had a live market when this was written, so most of the card is judged on form, course record and connections rather than price. One combination to keep an eye on all day: Bella Youngberry riding for Tony Gollan, who have won six of their 19 races together at this track and placed in 14.
Doomben: reading a Heavy card
A Heavy track at Doomben rewards horses that keep finding late, and it makes the course record more useful than usual because a lot of these horses have already shown whether they handle the place. Unlike most provincial cards, there is real depth of course form here. Zoubaby has placed in all five of his Doomben starts, and Headhunter has hit the frame in five of six.
| Horse | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zoubaby | 5 | 2 | 5 | 40.0 | 100.0 |
| Headhunter | 6 | 1 | 5 | 16.7 | 83.3 |
| Flying Destiny | 4 | 2 | 3 | 50.0 | 75.0 |
| Fabulantes | 4 | 2 | 3 | 50.0 | 75.0 |
| Bluepinot | 5 | 1 | 3 | 20.0 | 60.0 |
| Toro Strike | 6 | 1 | 3 | 16.7 | 50.0 |
| Prince Levi | 6 | 0 | 3 | 0.0 | 50.0 |
Chief In Charge and Ten Deep also have three starts each here. Chief In Charge has won all three, Ten Deep has placed in all three, and both meet in the last race.
Ben Thompson is the busiest rider on the card and the most successful at the track, with 33 winners from 174 rides. Bella Youngberry has a smaller book but hits the frame every second ride.
| Jockey | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bella Youngberry | 54 | 9 | 27 | 16.7 | 50.0 |
| Ben Thompson | 174 | 33 | 80 | 19.0 | 46.0 |
| Jace McMurray | 105 | 16 | 47 | 15.2 | 44.8 |
| A Mallyon | 47 | 3 | 20 | 6.4 | 42.6 |
| Ryan Maloney | 97 | 17 | 39 | 17.5 | 40.2 |
| M Rodd | 85 | 17 | 33 | 20.0 | 38.8 |
| Jag Guthmann-Chester | 73 | 8 | 28 | 11.0 | 38.4 |
Tony Gollan has 50 Doomben winners from 288 runners and the biggest team on the day. Matthew Hoysted is the one who quietly places half his runners here.
| Trainer | Runs | Wins | Places | Win% | Place% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matthew Hoysted | 52 | 9 | 26 | 17.3 | 50.0 |
| Jack Bruce | 62 | 11 | 28 | 17.7 | 45.2 |
| Michael Freedman | 31 | 6 | 14 | 19.4 | 45.2 |
| T J Gollan | 288 | 50 | 129 | 17.4 | 44.8 |
| R L Heathcote | 107 | 14 | 46 | 13.1 | 43.0 |
| C J Waller | 147 | 24 | 59 | 16.3 | 40.1 |

Doomben predictions, race by race
Race 1: Ladbrokes Spring Racing Carnival Hcp, 11:52AM, 1050m
Ghost Gum is the one with the experience, and in a two-year-old race on a Heavy track that counts for plenty. He ran third in his only start, he has Ben Thompson aboard from barrier 2, and the market has him a $2.90 favourite with Bet Right. He carries the most weight at 59kg, the price of being one of only three in the field with a start behind them.
Katsuko is the danger. She is a debutante, but the market has her at $3.30 with Unibet, which says the stable thinks she can run. La Bella Queen, another first starter at $4.00 with Unibet, is the other one being supported.
Better Be Done is the horse the market may have wrong. She ran second on debut and is still $7.00 with Bet Right, carrying 57kg. Win on Ghost Gum, small each-way on Better Be Done.
Race 2: Drinkwise Hcp, 12:32PM, 2020m
Five three-year-olds over 2020m on a Heavy track, with Tisani James scratched. The question is which of them really wants a staying test in the wet, and Win Star has given the clearest answer. He has run six times in the last 90 days for a win and five placings, and he won his last start. He has three Doomben starts for a win and two placings, so the track is no mystery to him either. Ben Thompson rides for the Munces, who have 17 winners from 99 runners here.
Your Attitude is the obvious danger. He comes from the Chris Waller stable, won last start, and has one win from two runs in the window. He has the same 60kg as Win Star. May The Force has been placed in three of four recent starts and gets in at 56.5kg, which makes him the exacta filler.
Win Star to win, saver exacta with Your Attitude.
Race 3: Xxxx (Bm85), 1:12PM, 2020m
Two wins and three placings from five runs in the last 90 days makes Becamo the most consistent horse in this BM85, and he has only 54kg. The worry is barrier 9 over a trip where getting cover matters, and Cejay Graham‘s Doomben record is modest. Still, the form is better than anything else in the field.
Awaygoesthebunny drew even wider, in barrier 10, but she won her last start and has placed in four of her six runs in the window. Bella Youngberry takes the ride at 52kg, and she is the jockey on the card who places most often here. On a wet track that light weight is worth plenty.
Our Anchorage is the class horse on 62kg for the C Maher stable, but three runs in the window have produced no placing. Prince Levi has placed in half of his six Doomben starts without winning, and that tells you what to expect from him again.
Becamo to win, Awaygoesthebunny each-way.
Race 4: Civilpipes Hcp (65), 1:52PM, 1200m
Seven scratchings have cut this to 14 runners, and Cardonette is the one that stands out. Two wins and a second from three runs in the window, a win and a second from two starts at the track, and the Ben Thompson and Tony Gollan partnership that has won eight and placed 25 times from 43 rides at Doomben. Barrier 5 at 58kg should let her sit handy.
Daiane is the danger with a near-identical profile: two wins and a placing from three recent runs, including a win last time, and 57kg from barrier 4. If she gets the run on the fence, she makes it a two-horse race.
Il Fratello won one of his two recent starts and placed in the other. Custo has placed five times from seven recent starts but won just once, which makes him a quinella filler rather than a winner.
Win on Cardonette, quinella with Daiane.
Race 5: Sky Racing Hcp, 2:32PM, 1350m
Kickup Rocky won his only start in the window, a win that earned $48,800, and he arrives as the class runner in this three-year-old handicap. The catch is the 60.5kg. On a Heavy track that is a lot to carry against horses with 52kg.
That is why Groening gets the vote. He has won two of his four starts in the window, both of them in his last two runs, and Ben Thompson takes the ride for David Vandyke at 52.5kg from barrier 1. The inside draw and the weight drop make him the better proposition at the weights.
Ever So Ready has placed in all three recent runs and adds safety for exotics. Sparkling Betty won her only start and is the unknown quantity.
Groening to win, Kickup Rocky the danger.
Race 6: Canadian Club (Rs0mw), 3:12PM, 1200m
A race for horses still looking for a city win, and six scratchings have tidied it up. The contrast here is between Vintage Vibes and Midnight Spirit.
Vintage Vibes is light and in form. She won last start, has two placings from two runs in the window, and carries 52.5kg with Jace McMurray from barrier 4. Midnight Spirit has more racing behind her, with a win and three placings from four recent starts, and Emily Lang rides for Tony Gollan.
Zoufani is the course-form horse, with two placings from three starts here, but barrier 19 makes life hard on a Heavy track. True Amor is the topweight at 60kg and has won one of his four recent runs.
Vintage Vibes to win, Midnight Spirit for the exacta.
Race 7: Century Pools (Bm70), 3:52PM, 1615m
Fire And Light has been in the first three in both of her runs in the window and won last time. Emily Lang rides for Pat Webster, who has three winners from 17 runners at Doomben, and barrier 6 is a good draw for a 1615m race on a wet track. She is the pick in a race weakened by seven scratchings.
Headhunter is the reliable one. He has placed in five of his six starts at Doomben, but he has won only one of them, and that is the story of his career. Jag Guthmann-Chester rides for Matthew Hoysted, who places half his runners here. Expect him to be in the finish again.
Duke Of Camden has four placings from five recent runs without a win, with Bella Youngberry aboard for Gollan. Toro Strike, with a win and three placings from six at the track, is the other one to include.
Fire And Light to win, Headhunter each-way.
Race 8: Higgins Coatings Hcp (C6), 4:32PM, 1615m
Bluepinot is the safest horse on the card. Four placings from five starts in the window, a win among them, and three placings from five at Doomben. Ryan Maloney rides for Chris Waller at 56kg, and that pairing has won seven of its 23 races at Doomben. He drew barrier 6, which is ideal.
Fabulantes is the danger. She has won two of four starts here and placed in another, so the track suits her, but she has placed only once in three runs in the window. If the Heavy track brings her back to her best, she is the one that can beat Bluepinot.
Stanislaus has won one of three starts at the track and placed in two of four recent runs. Last Chance Saloon, scratched from Race 7 to run here, has two placings from three recent starts.
Bluepinot to win and the leg to build a multi around.
Race 9: Cricks Highway Hcp, 5:07PM, 1110m
This is the race of the day. Bring Me Kash has three wins from three starts in the last 90 days, worth $73,900 between them, and he gets in at 53kg. Dale Smith rides for D R Ward. Barrier 11 is the one knock, but at 1110m on a wet track a horse in this form only needs a clear run.
The track specialists make it a proper test. Zoubaby has placed in all five of his Doomben starts, two of them wins, though he has not won in four starts in the window. Flying Destiny has won two of four here and placed in three, but carries 59kg. Blitzburg won two of his three recent runs, and Anthony Allen has won on two of his seven Doomben rides.
Fleetwood, at 52kg, has placed in four of five recent starts without winning. She is the exotics type again.
Back Bring Me Kash to win, with Zoubaby in the exacta.
Race 10: Ladbrokes Tote In +10% In October (Bm85), 5:37PM, 1350m
Ten Deep has placed in all three of her Doomben starts, including a win, and Bella Youngberry rides for Tony Gollan, the combination with six wins from 19 together here. She ran second last start and has 55.5kg from barrier 5. That is the profile to back in a closing BM85.
The interesting one is Chief In Charge. He has won all three of his starts at Doomben, but he has not placed in three runs in the window. He has 54.5kg and the inside gate with A Mallyon aboard. If the track brings back the old form, he is the roughie on the card.
Little Beginnings has placed in three of her four recent starts for Ryan Maloney. Space Tracker has three placings from four recent runs, but no wins.
Ten Deep to win, Chief In Charge a small each-way.

Where the money goes
NAP: Bring Me Kash (Race 9, 5:07PM). Three runs in the window, three wins. Fifty-three kilos and a sprint trip on a wet track give him every chance to make it four.
Value: Better Be Done (Race 1, 11:52AM). Second in her only start and $7.00 with Bet Right, while two first starters are shorter in the market.
Banker: Bluepinot (Race 8, 4:32PM). In the first three in four of five recent runs, with a jockey and trainer who win almost a third of their races together at Doomben.
Each-way: Headhunter (Race 7, 3:52PM). Five placings from six Doomben starts. He rarely wins, but he rarely misses the frame here.
Course angle: Bella Youngberry riding for Tony Gollan. They have won six of 19 races together at the track and placed in 14, and they team up four times today: Zoufani in Race 6, Duke Of Camden in Race 7, Blazen Boots in Race 8 and Ten Deep in Race 10.
Quaddie, Races 7 to 10: Fire And Light, Headhunter / Bluepinot, Fabulantes / Bring Me Kash, Zoubaby / Ten Deep, Little Beginnings.
If Youngberry keeps getting Gollan’s rides at this strike rate, she will be the first name to look for on every Doomben card this summer.
