Caulfield Tips 10/02/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 9 No. 1 MR BRIGHTSIDE ($1.96)
Hard to tip against MR BRIGHTSIDE in the Orr Stakes. The Team Hayes-trained galloper has finished top two in his past eight starts, winning five. He had the answers early on at his last preparation over the 1400m at Caulfield and can be excused for going down behind Pride Of Jenni at the tail end of his spring campaign with that performance coming just after his narrow Cox Plate (2040m) loss. Race should pan out well for him with a couple to roll forward and he can stalk them from barrier 4 with Craig Williams in the saddle.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 9 ANOTHER WIL ($2.20)
ANOTHER WIL can go on with the job in Race 3. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has won two of four and resumed with a win at Sandown on January 17 in a BenchMark 64. Bit of a soft kill at the $1.40 quote to score by three lengths to go 5.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. He should have room for improvement to handle the slight step up in class and just needs even luck finding a spot in the early stages from the draw.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4 No. 4 SOUTHPORT TYCOON ($1.90)
SOUTHPORT TYCOON should be hard to beat in the Autumn Stakes for the three-year-olds. The promising galloper resumed with an excellent runner-up performance behind Veight in the Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. The winner out of that heads to the Orr Stakes later on the programme. He went more than 10 lengths faster than standard at the Valley, which is a better figure than what any runner in this race has produced. The son of Written Tycoon was a second up winner at his last preparation and has form at the track and trip with a narrow runner-up performance behind Steparty in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude last spring.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8 No.2 KALLOS ($17.20)
KALLOS can be a surprise packet in what is an excellent edition of the Rubicon Stakes. The Godolphin galloper comes into this first up and just had the one start in the spring for a luckless 7th behind the favourite for this race, Asfoora, when beaten just under three lengths. That came at the track and trip in September. He was a first up winner at his previous campaign and what should suit the five-year-old is that the early speed should be on in this race. Look for him to be coming hard late in the piece.
