Here are our best bets for Murwillumbah races today.

Grafton visitor, BOLD CONTENDER (best odds $1.80 with bet365) makes his track debut today and boasting four podium finishes from his five starts this time in, he looks the one to beat. Last start, the Ocean Park gelding lined-up in a Class 1/Maiden over 1700m on his home track and did a mighty job to take home prizemoney on the day. Drawing the car park in gate 14 (of 16), he was never on the track settling near last (three-deep without cover), a dozen lengths off the pace. Turning for home he was the widest runner, 10 horses off the fence. He ran home strongly from there to get up in time and grab third prize on the line. He ran that trip out, 6.5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up. He covered his last 600m 1.6 lengths slower than standard, which 4 lengths better than his rivals here. He draws better today in gate seven but is still expected to settle in the back half of the field. The selling point here is the rise in distance which looks ideal, based on his last-start finish. Matty McGuren has the reins for the first time and will no doubt give the five-year-old every chance. He lines-up here as our best of the day.

Lismore-based galloper BEEF WEEK PRINCESS (best odds $3.60 with Sportsbet) is in great touch of late and looks a super chance of making her track debut here a winning one. Last start, the Casino Prince mare took her place in a Class 2 on her home track over 1410m. She drew the outside gate that day (8) and settled at the rear. Still last on the turn, Matty McGuren pulled her wide and she stormed home to beat all but one on the line. She ran her last 600m, 2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She also posted the fastest final 800m-200m sectionals as well. She was our Best Bet 🏆 that day and should have finished a lot closer. Kirk Matheson has the ride today (with McGuren engaged on Matt Dunn’s galloper) and maps to settle near mid-field from gate seven. The extra distance here looks ideal for her and she will be running home strongly again today.

The Marcus Wilson-trained FRAZZLED (best odds $3.70 with Unibet) showed enough improvement last start to suggest she is ready to shake the maiden monkey off her back today. After a poor showing at Ipswich two starts back, the Stryker mare then lined-up on her home track in a 1400m Maiden for another crack at victory. She came from well back on the turn to finish sixth and her last 100m was impressive, taking ground off them in the run to the line. She covered the trip, 9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this field. Stepping up in distance today looks the go for her and fitter for three runs back, she just might prove too hard to hold out here.
