Randwick Racing Tips 31 Oct 2026: Can Sheza Alibi Soar?

Overview

Sheza Alibi has been to Randwick three times and has never missed the placings, winning twice. She lines up in the Asahi Super Dry Golden Eagle at 4:45pm with $820,000 in prize money from her last three starts, all of them in the first three, and that record is the reason this card makes sense before you even get to the rest of it.

Ten races, a Good to Soft surface on the feed, and a programme that builds from a pair of BM78s into the Golden Eagle and the Sydney Gold Cup late. Chris Waller has runners everywhere, as you’d expect, and his Randwick numbers carry real weight: 397 starters here, 56 winners and 173 placegetters. Our Randwick racing tips work through every race, flag where the early prices sit, and finish with the bets we’d actually have. Only the first two races had live bookmaker prices when this was written, so the later markets get judged on form and profile rather than odds.

Reading the Randwick card

The course stats here have volume behind them, which isn’t always the case. Several of today’s horses have five or more starts at the track, and the riding and training samples run into the hundreds. Places include wins in every table below.

Horses with course form

Horse Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Marhoona 5 0 3 0% 60%
Agent Zero 5 1 2 20% 40%
Headley Grange 5 1 2 20% 40%
Dusty Bay 6 0 3 0% 50%
Night Agent 4 1 3 25% 75%
Apocalyptic 4 1 3 25% 75%
Sheza Alibi 3 2 3 67% 100%
Anthracite 3 1 3 33% 100%
Beiwacht 3 1 3 33% 100%

Jockeys

Jockey Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Zac Lloyd 158 21 75 13% 47%
N Rawiller 130 21 60 16% 46%
Siena Grima 107 13 47 12% 44%
C Schofield 115 15 48 13% 42%
Tim Clark 130 17 51 13% 39%
Tommy Berry 152 17 48 11% 32%

Trainers

Trainer Runs Wins Places Win% Place%
Joseph Pride 100 12 50 12% 50%
Michael Freedman 71 9 31 13% 44%
C J Waller 397 56 173 14% 44%
G Waterhouse & A Bott 122 15 53 12% 43%
C Maher 134 23 50 17% 37%
M, W & J Hawkes 49 8 19 16% 39%

Two things stand out. Joseph Pride gets half of his Randwick runners into the frame, which is a better place strike than anyone with real volume here. And Nash Rawiller is the one jockey who pairs a 16% win rate with a high place rate across 130 rides, so his book today (Agent Zero, Bluish Hue, Mawjood, Cuban Cigar, Regal Problem, Grafterburners, Beiwacht) deserves a second look in every race.

Randwick race-by-race tips

Race 1: Toyota Forklifts (BM78), 12:10PM, 1500m

Donatello comes into this off a win, a win and a second, and the Waller stable has put Tommy Berry back on. The market has him at $3.20 with Unibet, which is fair rather than generous, but in a nine-horse BM78 he is the one with the clearest upward line. Both of his runs in the past three months produced a placing, one of them a win.

Agent Zero is the danger with track knowledge. Five Randwick starts for a win and two placings, Ciaron Maher‘s stable, and Nash Rawiller aboard. At $7.00 he is the horse most likely to make Donatello work. Cabbucio, $9.00 with Palmerbet, has placed in all three of his recent starts without winning, which is a place-bet profile if ever there was one.

Win bet on Donatello. Small each-way on Cabbucio.

Race 2: Tab Highway Hcp (C3), 12:45PM, 1400m

Twenty runners, a Highway handicap, and a $2.05 favourite. Is Bluish Hue a lay, or the real thing? The form says the real thing. He has run five times in the past three months and placed in all five, winning one. M J Dunn‘s horse was also placed on his only Randwick visit, and Rawiller rides from barrier 6, which is a nice draw in a big field over 1400m.

The price is short for a race this size, so we would not load up, but he has the most reliable profile in the field by a distance.

Street Force is the one to have on side at a price. S I Singleton has had eight runners at Randwick for three winners, and M Weir has two wins from five rides here. Street Force has placed in three of four recent runs with a win, and $7.50 with Bet Right is too big for that record. Party Boss, $9.50 with Unibet, is the other worth noting: two runs this preparation, a win and a placing.

Bluish Hue to win, Street Force each-way as the value play.

Race 3: Mostyncopper (BM78), 1:20PM, 1300m

Hard to have a confident view on this one. No bookmaker had a market up when this was written, and the form lines cross over each other. If forced, Silencio Porfavor gets the vote. Matthew Smith‘s mare has placed in all four starts in the past three months without winning, and she gets in with 54kg. Dylan Gibbons rides.

Mawjood has the class but also 61kg, and Bjorn Baker‘s horse has placed once from two starts here. Fiddlers Green from barrier 1 has placed in two of three Randwick runs and is the each-way alternative.

Place bet on Silencio Porfavor. Otherwise a watch race.

Race 4: Four Pillars Midway (BM68), 2:00PM, 1500m

Two horses, two profiles. Dusty Bay knows every blade of grass at Randwick, six starts here for three placings, and finally won last time out. Cuban Cigar, from the same T J Bartley stable, has placed in four of his last five runs with a win and gets Rawiller.

The draw separates them. Dusty Bay jumps from barrier 2 with Tim Clark and should get the run of the race. Cuban Cigar comes from 16 and has to find cover in a field of twenty-one. That is the difference here. Spaceballs, a recent winner, is the other one with a bit of momentum, but barrier 15 is another awkward gate.

Each-way on Dusty Bay. Cuban Cigar in exotics.

Race 5: Alm On-Premise (BM78), 2:40PM, 2000m

Think Itz You has won his last two and has two wins from four runs this preparation. Chris Waller and Tommy Berry again, and 2000m on a softish track looks within his range given the way he finished his recent wins.

Columbus is the obvious danger. He has won once and placed in both of his Randwick starts, and three of his four recent runs have been placings. Zac Lloyd, who places in nearly half of his Randwick rides, is aboard. Koolibah, also from the Waller yard, has placed on both visits here and only carries 52kg, so don’t leave him out of the trifecta.

Win on Think Itz You, saver on Columbus.

Race 6: E Security Group (BM78), 3:20PM, 1300m

Nova Centauri is the form horse of the day on raw numbers: seven starts in the past three months for four wins and five placings. She draws barrier 1, which over 1300m at Randwick is a gift if she jumps.

The catch is the connections’ record here. R P Northam has had 19 runners at Randwick without a winner, and A B Collett wins only a small share of his rides at the track. That is enough to keep the stake sensible rather than enough to oppose her.

Regal Problem is the one we’d rather be with at a price when the market opens. Joseph Pride‘s horse won one of two Randwick starts and placed in both, has two wins from four recent runs, and Rawiller rides. Hurry Miss, two wins from her last three, is the third leg of the puzzle.

Win on Nova Centauri, each-way Regal Problem.

Race 7: The Russell Balding Stakes, 4:00PM, 1300m

Grafterburners is coming off a win, and his recent earnings tell you about the company he keeps: more than $1.2 million in prize money from three starts. He has won once from four tries at Randwick, placing twice, and Rawiller gets the ride, though barrier 17 asks a question.

Ninja, from Michael Freedman‘s yard, has similar big-race earnings recently and won at the track before. Theblade, the Hawkes runner, has won one of two at Randwick and placed in both, and Marhoona has placed in three of five here without winning, which tells its own story about where she tends to finish.

Win on Grafterburners. Marhoona for the place only.

Race 8: Asahi Super Dry Golden Eagle, 4:45PM, 1500m

The four-year-old feature, and Sheza Alibi‘s profile fits it neatly. She has won twice from three Randwick starts and placed every time. Her last three runs read a second, a win and a second, banking $820,000. She also gets the mares’ allowance down to 55.5kg against the colts and geldings on 57.5kg. P G Moody and Katherine Coleman have had seven runners at Randwick for two winners, and Luke Nolen rides from barrier 6.

Skyhook is the horse to fear. Two wins from three runs this campaign, placings in all three, and $530,000 earned. The problem is barrier 16. Decorum, two wins from three recently, draws 14, so both main dangers have to work to get a position, while Sheza Alibi should land just behind the speed.

Waller saddles four (Beiwacht, Autumn Boy, Mr Miller and Estremo). Beiwacht has placed in all three of his Randwick runs with a win and is the pick of that group for exotics.

Win bet on Sheza Alibi. Exacta Sheza Alibi over Skyhook and Decorum.

Race 9: Sydney Gold Cup, 5:20PM, 2000m

Anthracite has been the most reliable stayer on the card for three months: seven runs, three wins, six placings, and $308,300 in prize money. He has won once and placed in all three Randwick starts, and he gets in light with 53.5kg. Joseph Pride places half of his runners here.

A Adkins has a modest Randwick record, so it’s the horse doing the work rather than the rider, but from barrier 5 there is no reason he can’t settle close enough. Starzintheireyes is the threat. John O’Shea and Tom Charlton‘s runner has placed in both Randwick starts and two of three recent runs, and C Schofield is one of the better place-strike jockeys here.

Win bet on Anthracite, Starzintheireyes in the exacta.

Race 10: Catanach’s Jewellers (BM78), 5:55PM, 1100m

Where’stheprofit has won two of three runs this preparation and placed in all three. Cameron Crockett has two winners from seven Randwick runners, and the 1100m suits a horse who has done most of his winning sprinting.

Fuadee has exactly the same recent record, two wins from three, and draws barrier 2, so this could come down to who gets the cleaner run in the straight. Hay Street has won one of two Randwick starts and placed in both, a decent each-way prospect in a field that lost Compensation, Pride To Follow and Pokerjack to scratchings.

Win on Where’stheprofit, each-way Hay Street.

Where the money goes

NAP: Sheza Alibi (Race 8, 4:45PM). Two wins and a placing from three Randwick starts, with the mares’ allowance against the boys and a far better draw than her two main rivals. Hard to build a better profile for a four-year-old feature.

Value: Street Force (Race 2, 12:45PM). $7.50 with Bet Right for a horse who has placed in three of four recent runs, from a stable that wins three of every eight here.

Banker: Bluish Hue (Race 2, 12:45PM). Five recent starts, five placings. Short at $2.05, but that’s the job of a banker leg.

Each-way: Cabbucio (Race 1, 12:10PM). Placed in all three recent starts and $9.00 with Palmerbet.

Course angle: Joseph Pride places half of his Randwick runners. Anthracite and Regal Problem carry that edge today.

If Sheza Alibi wins the way her form suggests, the conversation turns to whether she can take on the open-age mares next.
