He’s two from two in the placings window recently (two fourths), and that’s often the difference in these 1200m country maidens: the horse that can hold a spot, cop the pressure, and still find late. From gate 4, Gabrielle Johnston should have options to either hold a midfield rail or sit one off if it gets busy inside.
The danger is Red Rocquette (form 4-2) who’s already shown she can run to the line and gets a nice middle draw (5). If she lands closer than Mr Cacciatore, she can outkick him.
Staking: Win bet Mr Cacciatore. If you’re playing exotics, keep Red Rocquette onside as the filly with the upside.
Race 3: Drb Contracting Mdn Hcp — 14:15, 1312m
This is a race shape story. There’s not a stack of exposed speed, and that can turn 1300m maidens into tactical affairs where the rider who commits first gets the cheap sectionals.
Denise’s Gal maps to land exactly where you want. She’s drawn gate 1, carries 121.2, and she’s been around the mark enough times (4-6-6-6-3-4 across recent form) that you can picture her holding the rail and making others work around her. She’s not flashy, but she’s the sort that wins these when the race doesn’t fall apart late.
The danger is Piacentini purely on upside. He’s only had the one run, and it’s hard to know what’s under the bonnet from a single “7”, but the stable has booked Donovan Dillon and drawn 3, which screams “go forward and improve”.
A quick Bathurst note: Argyle Springs has placed on his only run here, but he’s a five-year-old maiden type, and he’s stuck with a mystery jockey listing. I’d rather back the map certainty.

Race 4: Bathurst Ag, Horse & Pet Hcp (C1) — 14:50, 1531m
The market problem, if one appears, will be treating this like a “last-start wins it” race. It’s not. The better angle is consistency at the grade and who keeps turning up and running through the line.
Comic Culture is the one I want to be with. The form reads like a horse who has found his level and is happy living there: 4-3 then 1-2-2. He’s got enough tactical speed to hold a spot from barrier 6, and he doesn’t need to be cuddled into it. If he runs to his last five starts, he wins more often than he loses.
Brass Monkeys is the danger because he keeps knocking on the door in stronger-looking races than this (1-3-3-2-2-0). He’ll get back a touch from gate 4, but Louise Day can put him into the race early enough over 1531m.
Sellicks Beach won last start and might be the “new toy” in the market, but he’s drawn 10 and now has to do it with a tougher run. I’m happy to make him prove it.

Race 5: Offroad 4×4 Bathurst (Bm66) — 15:25, 1969m
The contrast here is simple: one horse brings a genuine recent winning pattern, the other brings the race fitness and the right draw. I’m backing the one who has been doing it, not promising it.
Yiasou has the best current profile in the race. His last six runs include three wins and two seconds (2-8-3-1-1-2), and that’s not a “one spike” formline. That’s a horse thriving. He draws barrier 2 which is gold around this circuit at the trip, and MS W Costin has already shown she can make Bathurst work, winning one of her three rides here and hitting the frame twice. Keep it clean early, and this is the runner who can control the race from the right spot.
The danger is Sunburnt Country (gate 4). He’s a three-year-old in amongst older legs but he’s already won twice in his last five (4-1-1-2-6). If he gets the right trail and the older horses give him a soft midrace, he can sprint past them late.
Italus has won on his only Bathurst start, but that’s a single data point. More important: he’s been mixing it in a touch deeper and could bounce if the tempo stays solid, yet I can’t take him on trust with that recent form (2-7-1-0-6-6).
Staking: Win bet Yiasou. If you’re building multis, he’s the banker on the card for me.
Race 6: Sheds N Homes Bathurst (Bm66) — 16:05, 1203m
This is the stable move that matters. Angus Stewart doesn’t need to flood the meeting to make an impact, but when he turns up to Bathurst, he converts. Five runners here for two winners is a proper strike rate on meaningful volume, and it makes his three-year-old Gail Jeanette the starting point.
She’s in form (5-2-1-8-1), she draws the pole (barrier 1), and she carries 128.9 which is workable in a BM66 when you control the first 200m. If Matt Kirk can hold the fence and make them come around, Gail Jeanette can pinch cheap lengths then kick hard from the bend.
The danger is Noctua, even though he’s posted a “0” last start. Before that he was 2-6-1-2-0, and Natalie Jarvis has a tidy Bathurst profile: two runners here, one win, and both have placed. If Noctua finds the front or the box seat, he can absolutely spoil the party.
Staking: Win bet Gail Jeanette. Save on Noctua if he’s $6 or bigger because the Jarvis angle is real.
Race 7: Dusty Hooves Media Country Boosted (Bm58) — 16:45, 1422m
The shape is the headache: a big field, awkward draws, and a few runners who only need the slightest knock to be out of the race. That usually pushes me to horses who can make their own luck early.
De Joker</strong gets that chance from barrier 1. He carries 133.3, which isn’t nothing, but this is a BM58 and he gets the kind of run you just can’t buy from wider gates. He also won on his only Bathurst start, so at least we know he handles the circuit. Braith Nock can hold the rail, tag the leaders, and make it a stamina test late.
The danger is Jamacri</strong. He’s flying in the last 90 days with two wins and four placings from six starts, and he’s the type who keeps finding. The draw (15) is the worry because he might have to snag right out and give away ground at the wrong time. If Stiff can slot in with cover, Jamacri is the one you fear.
Invincible Salex has won on his only Bathurst run, but again, it’s one visit. The bigger issue is he’s drawn 14 and that can make him a hostage to tempo.
