Race 2: Choyce’s Livestock Transport Plate (C5) — 13:42, 1312m
Here’s the puzzle: do you side with the horse that keeps winning and placing, or the one that’s a professional bridesmaid but rarely lets you down? I’m siding with the winner profile. Pocket Picker comes in with 711312 and he’s drawn gate 4 which is exactly where you want to be in these 1300m races. He can hold a position without burning, and that’s half the battle.
Schmoozer adds spice because his form has been a rollercoaster (233210). He’s capable of putting a race away when he’s right, but that last start “0” is the sort of anchor that can be either a forgive or a red flag depending on how it happened. Without sectional detail, I’d rather take the consistent closer to the speed.
Danger: Little Cointreau (321322) is the obvious threat. He keeps running top two and if this turns into a sit-and-sprint, he’s the one I want to be holding the right run behind them.
Note on course runs: Cold One, Heavenly Legend and Inquisitive Legend have each had one start at Blackall without placing. That’s not a knock, just not something to hang a bet on.

Race 3: Warrego Signs Hcp — 14:17, 1531m
This is the weight question, plain and simple. Testator Silens has to carry 149.9 and give away big chunks to the rest. He can do it, but the margin for error shrinks fast over 1531m on dirt if he gets posted.
I’m looking lower in the weights for the “right” run, and Invincible Red is the one I want. He comes off 628731, so the current prep has clearly clicked, and he carries 123.4 from gate 8. It’s not the cosy draw, but at this trip he has time to find a lane and build into it.
Danger: Acedrod is the blow-in that can win if he’s allowed to dictate the map from gate 1. The form (3-75916) says he can throw in a flat one, but it also says he can jump and run a race when things go his way.
Staking: Each-way Invincible Red. If you want a saver, keep it to Acedrod for small stakes, because the inside draw can make you look silly if you ignore it.
Race 4: Oma Contracting Hcp (C1) — 14:57, 1148m
The market usually falls in love with last-start winners in these, and fair enough, but I’m with the horse that has been trying to win for a while and finally gets the conditions to do it. Day To Remember comes in with 423221, draws barrier 3, and carries 132.2. That’s the profile you want in an 1148m race: close enough early, strong enough late, and drawn to avoid the “three-wide, no cover” horror show.
There’s pace here. Boulevard Boy has enough tactical speed to roll across from gate 9 if they want to, and Solar Surfer will be charging forward too despite gate 10. That helps Day To Remember, because it gives him something to follow into the race rather than forcing him to create it.
One more thing: trainer M A Oates is the standout course operator with 4 historical runners for 2 wins and 3 placings at Blackall. That’s a real pattern, not a lucky one-run stat, and it makes this placement feel deliberate.
