Flemington Tips 1/1/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 6 VERMENTINO- ($2.50)
VERMENTINO has also accepted for Moonee Valley Saturday and at the time of writing it remains to be seen which way connections will head. Keen on him at either venue and he has won all three of his career starts, leading all the way at his latest in what was a dominant performance at Sandown in a BenchMark 70 over the 1200m on December 14, defeating Bellinger by nearly two lengths. He looks up to the step up in grade.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 1 BELLE ET RICHE- ($3.50)
BELLE ET RICHE should be hard to beat in Race 3. The Mitchell Freedman-trained galloper is yet to finish out of the placings in her seven career starts to date and has filled the exacta at her two runs this time in. She caught the eye when resuming at the Ballarat metro meeting back in November before stepping out over the 1400m at Sandown on December 10 and receiving no favours in the straight when running on strongly. Despite the bad luck, the daughter of Rich Enuff went 6.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark. She was a third up winner last time and looks ready.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7 No. 1 PERSAN- ($3.20)
Sticking with PERSAN in Race 7. The Maher/Eustace galloper broke through for his first win in 18 months when scoring at Flemington over the 2600m on December 17, leading all the way to defeat Nobel Heights. The six-year-old meets that horse on similar terms at the weights. Form prior to that over the spring carnival was rock solid and he likes Flemington, while worth noting that there was a massive gap to 3rd at his latest run. 2800m presents no concerns and the son of Pierro has attracted support in the early betting.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 2 No. 2 PRAIRIE FLOWER- ($9)
Going with PRAIRIE FLOWER at the each-way quote in Race 2 of the day at Flemington. The Henry Dwyer-trained galloper resumed over the 1200m at Flemington on December 17 and ran on strongly from the tail to grab 3rd behind She Dances. She had a bit of a chequered passage late in the piece. At her past two campaigns the daughter of Star Turn has been a big improver on benchmark figures when second up and gets to the 1400m for the first time. Declan Bates rides and the pair draw to be right in the hunt from barrier 4.
