BEST BET 🏆

Race 6 No. 1 MAJOR BEEL- ($3)

Race 6 is the Victoria Derby Preview and MAJOR BEEL gives the impression that he can measure up. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper has had four runs for a win and three minor placings and headed down from Sydney to run at Moonee Valley on September 3. Stepping up from the 1300m to the 1500m, the son of Savabeel settled just worse than midfield in the field of six on what was a hot tempo up front. He was shuffled back as they cornered before balancing up and producing the fastest last 200m to fill the exacta behind Castillian. He went 10.6 lengths faster than standard, which is 10 lengths better than what any other runner in this race has produced. Flemington should suit and he is the one to beat for mine.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 2  ELKINGTON ROAD- ($5.50)

Nice debut performance by ELKINGTON ROAD to score at Sandown on August 31 and the Mike Moroney-trained galloper can measure up to Race 3, a BenchMark 64 over the 1420m. The son of All Too Hard settled handy on the Heavy ground that day in a small field and found plenty in the concluding stages to score by two lengths from Ferrari Man, who has since gone on to just miss. The son of Not A Single Doubt went more than seven lengths faster than standard benchmark at his debut run, which is nearly give lengths better than what any other runner in this race has produced. 1400m looks like it will suit and he should land in the running line in the early stages from barrier 9.

Race 2 No. 7  STAR OF EDEN- ($7)

STAR OF EDEN can go close at the each-way quote in Race 2 at Flemington. Another from the Mike Moroney yard, the mare has not won in a while but races well at headquarters and was solid in a BenchMark 78 when 3rd behind Seonee at Sandown over the 1600m on a Heavy track on August 31. The five-year-old comes into this third up and at her last preparation she narrowly went down at Flemington in a BM78 when 4th behind Stay Gold before producing some nice performances behind Yonce later in her preparation over the 1600m and then the 1800m. She is likely to settle handy in a race that lacks pressure up front and should be in it for a long way.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 7 No. 17  OCEAN MISS- ($10)

Not sure we will see the fourth emergency, OCEAN MISS, gain a start here but the six-year-old is one to consider, should she gain a run. She stepped out over the 1400m at Caulfield on August 27 and kept coming in the straight to finish runner-up behind Lady Of Honour, going four lengths faster than standard, which are the second best last start figures of any runner. At her previous second up run, the daughter of Ocean Park improved nearly eight lengths on figures to finish runner-up at the track and trip behind Good And Proper in a BenchMark 84 here on ANZAC Day. She then finished runner-up again over the 1600m at Flemington later on. She has drawn to save plenty of ground from barrier 1 and will be ridden by Brett Prebble, who is three from 10 for the stable, producing an 82% profit on turnover for punters.
