Flemington Tips 25/3/2025
BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)
Race 1 No. 4 VERANSKOVA- ($3.10)
VERANSKOVA should be hard to beat in the opener at Flemington. The lightly raced mare loves it down the straight and narrowly missed over the 1000m behind Squid Game when resuming at her last preparation before dominating her rivals at the track and trip. At her most recent start she ran well when runner-up behind Asfoora over the 1100m. That came back on Derby Day. The Cindy Alderson-trained galloper goes well fresh and should be primed. This looks well within her grasp.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No.9 BOSSY NIC – ($5.50)
Race 2 is for the two-year-old fillies and BOSSY NIC can go one spot better than a debut effort that saw her finish runner-up on debut at Morphettville. That came at Listed level over the 1050m and she settled back before closing off in slick fashion. The slight step up in trip should suit and the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper will be ridden by the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) winning jockey, Dean Holland. He strikes at 26% for the stable, providing a 14% profit on turnover for punters.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 9 SO UNUSUAL – ($5)
Sticking with SO UNUSUAL in Race 5 of the day. Winner out of this gets a golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup (3200m) and this boy has looked after us in recent times. No reason to jump off now after a last start effort to overcome trouble early on in the straight before winning in impressive fashion ahead of Youth Spirit. That came over the 2500m at Flemington and the four-year-old gives the impression that he can keep raising the bar.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 14 DAYTONA BAY – ($4.60)
DAYTONA BAY gets his chance in Race 8. The Peter Moody-trained galloper won four of his first five starts and resumed with a 4th at Sandown back in February. At his most recent run, the son of American Pharaoh was posted wide but stuck on well for 5th behind Scallopini in what has turned out to be a strong form race. He improved six lengths on benchmark figures at this stage of his last preparation to go nine lengths faster than standard. Barrier 4 and early market support are further ticks.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 7 No. 9 RIGHT YOU ARE – ($8)
The Australian Cup is the feature of the day and I am sticking with RIGHT YOU ARE after his solid win in the Australian Cup Prelude (2000m) back on March 11. The Maher/Eustace galloper has the picket fence formline with five straight wins and did it at both ends last time to go a very healthy 14.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He can get a few off the bit early on here and the son of So You Think has the tenacity to stick on strong at the business end.
