Race 6 No. 7 PLACE OF GOLD- ($6)

PLACE OF GOLD should find this easier than a last start effort that saw him finish 13th at Flemington in the MCC Final, beaten five lengths. The four-year-old was chopped out of it at the 400m in that race and was fair to the line. Prior form excellent when 3rd behind Prowling at Sale. A firmer in the early betting, he will need to overcome the wide barrier but he gets the services of Jamie Kah and pace looks genuine here, which should suit.

Race 8 No. 3 LINA’S LEGEND- ($6.50)

LINA’S LEGEND can go close in the final event of the day at Sandown. The four-year-old has had two runs this time in and was luckless on resumption at Geelong behind Minsk Moment in what has turned out to be a solid form race. Last time out he tackled the 1200m at Flemington and closed off well for 6th behind Snapper. Step up to the 1400m suits the Danny O’Brien-trained galloper and his peak figures at his past two preparations have come when third up. He should be strong late in the piece.

Race 5 No. 6 CHARMING DI- ($12)

Race 5 at Sandown is a BenchMark 64 for the three-year-olds and CHARMING DI can just about make it back to back wins after scoring at Pakenham when first up on November 10. That came over the 1000m and the John Moloney-trained galloper settled handy before exerting authority at the business end. She looks to have come back in good order and went 4.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best figure that any horse in this race has produced. Second up at her initial preparation she improved when going from the 1000m to the 1100m to score at Moe. The daughter of Rubick should handle the conditions and gets the 1.5kg claim for Matthew Cartwright.
