If you’re hunting something to blow up the exotics, Lottery Link appeals as the grinder who can run into a place. The Heathcote yard is reliable in these races, and Michael Rodd’s Doomben record is proper: 47 rides for 10 wins.

The upside is that he’s trained by Chris Anderson, and while Anderson’s Doomben strike rate is modest (15 runners for 1 win), he does hit the frame often enough here to take seriously, with 8 placings from those 15.
The danger is the Gollan pair, even from ugly draws. Gossamer Glow gets barrier 4</strong which is the key. You’re getting the stable that places plenty at Doomben, and a jockey who rides the track well in Thompson. If the race becomes a sit and sprint, Gossamer Glow can pinch it by being in the first three turning in.
I also want one wider runner in your thinking: Agadoo. He’s been around the mark for a while (243524), and barrier 2 gives him a chance to finally land the run he’s been missing. If Arctic Bright has to do work from the 600, Agadoo becomes the one that can steal it.

Race 4: Xxxx Gold Plate (C3) — 14:18, 1312m
The market will probably gravitate to the consistent types, but I’m happy to keep it simple: Siesta looks the right horse for this class band. She comes in with 256-1</strong, and she gets the set-up you want at Doomben: barrier 1, Cejay Graham to ride positively, and the Gollan stable that can be trusted on this track with that big 183-runner sample.
The other reason I’m comfortable is race shape. There isn’t an obvious wall of speed here. If Siesta holds the fence and controls the first half of the race, she forces the others to go around her, and that’s always a hard way to win at Doomben.
The danger is Extreme Diamond for Maher with Ben Thompson from gate 2. He’s coming off a placing profile (258-2) and draws to stalk Siesta all the way. If Siesta over-races, Extreme Diamond is the one who gets first crack. Keep an eye on Winchman too, because the form is honest (3-32132) even if the draw at 10 makes the task harder.
