The contender I want onside early is Xtravagant Johnny (barrier 10, Ben Thompson). That was his only start here, but it matters because it tells you he handles the roomy track and the rhythm of this straight run in.

The danger is Metal Boss (gate 5, Cejay Graham, Schweida). The form line reads 5 then 2, which is exactly the kind of second-up improvement you see in these maidens, and he draws to hold a spot without burning.

Here’s the puzzle: do you take the exposed form, or do you take the stable muscle and upside? I’m leaning to the horse that’s already shown it can sit close and fight: Weownachevy (barrier 1, D Peisley). A second at this level is often the best guide in these 2YO maidens, because so many of the others are guessing games.
Barrier 1 at 1312m is gold if the horse begins cleanly. You can hold the rail, let the race come to you, and force the wider runners to either press early or sit deep and cover ground. Peisley doesn’t have big win numbers at this track from limited rides, but he’s hit the frame in two of three Eagle Farm goes, and that’s usually enough for me when the map is doing the heavy lifting.
The obvious threat is Threeeyedwitch (gate 4, Cejay Graham, Schweida). The form reads 2,2,4. That’s consistency, and she’s drawn to stalk the speed and get first crack when they fan. Another one to keep safe is Exceed The Sale (gate 2, Chelsea Baker) who ran third on its only Eagle Farm start. Again, one run isn’t a trend, but it’s a handy reassurance.

The market problem in this race won’t be odds, it’ll be confidence. A lot of these profiles are either lightly raced or have patchy form, so you’re really asking: who gets the softest run and still has a kick at the top of the straight?
I’m siding with Money Maestro (barrier 1, Corey Sutherland) purely on setup. Inside draw, sprint trip, and a jockey who knows Eagle Farm well enough to avoid getting stuck in a pocket. Sutherland’s strike rate here isn’t elite, but he’s ridden 60 times at the track, so you’re not dealing with someone learning the place on the fly.
The danger is Solvent (gate 7, Ben Thompson). The form is 3 then 2, which screams “maiden ready”, and Thompson is the best of the riders engaged on pure Eagle Farm output over a big sample. The query is the draw, because at 1094m you can get flushed wide and spend your ticket before the race really starts.

Race 4: Sky Racing Mdn Plate — 13:43, 1094m
The stable move sets the tone: Gollan has three in this, and he doesn’t bring numbers to Eagle Farm for the scenery. The one I want is Ceretti (barrier 10, Leah Martyn, 53kg). The wide gate isn’t pretty, but the weight is. In a 1094m maiden, a genuine lightweight that can take a spot and quicken is a weapon, especially if they overdo it up front and the leaders start wobbling at the 150m.
Martyn is a serious Eagle Farm asset. She’s 5 wins from 17 rides here and she lands in the money often enough to trust the decision making. When she’s on a Gollan runner, I read it as “we’re here to win today”, not “education run”.
The danger is the other runner with a proven Eagle Farm tick: Snitzstream (gate 7, Jag Guthmann-Chester). It ran third on its only start at the track, and Guthmann-Chester’s numbers here are respectable without being flashy. If Ceretti is forced too wide for too long, Snitzstream can be the one who gets the better economical run and nabs it late.
