In Race 2 we’ve got a proper yardstick angle, because K M Schweida turns up again and again at this track and gets results. Nick Heywood is a plus at this track with a small but tidy book, and Coccinella’s recent run profile at least says she’s kept at the job. Over the last 90 days she’s had 6 starts for 2 placings, which isn’t lighting the world up, but it does tell you she’s capable of running to the money when the setup suits.
The danger is Alkebulan, because he’s one of the few in this field who has shown he can handle the Gold Coast: he’s placed in both visits here. Again, only two runs so it’s not some “track specialist” narrative, but it’s enough to trust he won’t hate the place. His last 90 days reads 4 runs for 2 placings, and that’s the kind of consistency that wins these races when the favourite gets posted wide or held up.
I’m happy to take on the deeper form lines like The Hopestar here. He’s had 5 runs at the Gold Coast and hasn’t placed, which is the sort of course record you don’t ignore when you’re trying to find a winner, not a “one day it’ll happen”.

The market might end up chasing the “flashy” profiles here, but I’m going straight to the stable that makes this track pay: Hit A Lick (Schweida, Butler) looks the right horse to back in a 2yo maiden where professionalism matters more than hype.
Schweida doesn’t need selling at the Gold Coast. From 51 runners here he wins 11 and lands 24 placings. That’s the sort of sample where you can trust the placement. And with young horses, the stable’s ability to have them forward and educated is half the battle.
Hit A Lick has already shown enough to stay on the shortlist with a form line of 5-4. Barrier three gives Butler options: hold a spot, don’t get cluttered, and let the race come to him. Butler’s overall Gold Coast strike rate isn’t huge on volume, but today I care more about the stable pattern than the jockey stat.
The danger is Queen Olympias. She’s the one with immediate upside off a second at her only start, and she’s drawn to find a run without doing anything fancy. If she improves even a length, she can win.
