The obvious danger is Grande Diablo for Griffith and Bullock. He’s got more exposed form (210476) and draws to get the dream run from gate 2. The question is whether he’s got the same appetite at the end of 2351m when the pressure goes on. Bullock at Gunnedah is always a note you keep at the top of the page, but I’m leaning to the mare who’s trending the right way.

This is the race that reads like a punchline the longer you stare at it: how does Ordinary Angel keep not winning? Form of 8222 says she’s basically living in the finish, and she finally gets a rider upgrade that actually changes outcomes. Bullock’s record here is elite and this draw (gate 3) lets him put her in the first three without spending petrol.
The horse I’d fear most is Magic Merlin (2432). He’s the type who can sit handy and keep finding, and if the leaders overdo it even slightly, he’s the one who can pinch the race off the turn. Still, Ordinary Angel has earned her chance, and this looks the right placement to stop the bleeding.

Race 3: Cool Blue Ice Hcp (C2) — 14:10, 1094m
The race shape screams speed, and Zubba Storm has the profile of a horse you don’t want to be against in a country 1100m handicap. He’s a 3-year-old on the up (23-241), carries the topweight, and gets Bullock again. The barrier is the only niggle (gate 8), but if he steps cleanly Bullock can slide across and either lead or sit outside it. At this trip, being in control is worth more than being “well weighted”.
Frankie’s Shout is the danger purely because he draws gate 1 and comes off a win (544751). He doesn’t need to be better than Zubba Storm for 1094m; he just needs to make the favourite work early and then kick at the right time. If the inside is holding, he’s the one who makes you sweat.
One more note: Our Emily won on her only start at Gunnedah, which is a nice data point, but it’s still one run and she’s giving away experience in this grade. I’d rather see her do it again before I bet like she owns the place.

Race 4: Mannion Drilling Mdn Plate — 14:50, 1094m
Here’s the puzzle: do you take the known triers, or do you respect the two-year-old with a “nothing to see here” barrier? I’m going to be blunt: Sandbi has “plan” written all over it. A 2-year-old turning up with form listed as “1” means it’s already shown it can win, and that’s a weapon in a race where plenty have had chances (and kept finding excuses). Yes, gate 14 is ugly, and yes, we don’t get the luxury of a named jockey in the data, but I’m still happy to side with the one that’s already crossed the line first.
The danger is Star Of Indigo. He’s only had three goes (6-92), hit the placings last time, and Bullock rides. From gate 2 he maps to get the soft run Sandbi won’t. If Sandbi gets caught deep and has to keep rolling, Star Of Indigo is the one who can make that hurt late.
Staking: Each-way Sandbi (because of the draw). Save on Star Of Indigo to win if you want the map on your side.
Race 5: Courthouse Hotel Gunnedah Mdn Hcp — 15:25, 1367m
I’m happy to finish the day with a practical bet: Cassie’s Angel to win. She’s been around the mark without breaking through (2672), and that’s often all you need in a maiden handicap if you’re drawn to get cover and peel at the right time. Gate 5 is fine, Nick Palmer can find a spot, and the 1367m looks a better fit than the sharper sprints that can turn into messy stop-start affairs.
The horse that can spoil it is Nielsen Park for Griffith and Bullock. He improved last start (665-82), draws gate 3, and that stable-jockey combination is the strongest repeating angle on the card. If Bullock gets rolling at the 600m and the race turns into a long sustained sprint, Nielsen Park is the one most likely to go with him.
Tamieka Warrior (6-23242) keeps putting herself there and would be the value play for place or running multiples, but she’s had plenty of chances to win. I’m not keen to take skinny odds on a horse that has made a habit of finding one better.
