Flemington Tips 09/03/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 6 No. 6 MOLLYNICKERS- ($3.45)
MOLLYNICKERS can improve on a first up performance that saw her place 3rd in the Group 3 Vanity (1400m) at Flemington a fortnight ago. The Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained galloper was slow out of the blocks that day and settled back before working home strongly to land a length off Grinzinger Belle. Second up last time, she was a 10-length improver on benchmark figures when going from a Moe Maiden win to a victory at Caulfield. The daughter of Pierro was 4th at Group 1 level in her only run at the distance with that coming behind some big names. Ben Melham rides.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4 No. 1 RUE DE ROYALE- ($5)
RUE DE ROYALE can go close in Race 4 of the day at Flemington. The Group 2 sees the two-year-olds in action in the Sires Produce Stakes (1400m). He settled last in the recent Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) after drawing wide and could only manage 10th but made up some nice ground late in the piece, producing the second fastest last 200m behind Hayasugi. The Tony McEvoy-trained galloper is still a Maiden after four runs but has been unlucky in a couple of those when runner-up. A firmer in the early betting, the son of Per Incanto draws to save ground from barrier 2 and if the gaps come at the right time he can run over the top of them.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 8 BENEDETTA- ($18)
Keen to have something each-way on BENEDETTA in the Newmarket Handicap. The Jason Warren-trained mare comes out of a strongly run Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and was working into that race before being held up at a vital stage. She closed off strongly once clear to finish 4th behind Queman, beaten just under two lengths. The four-year-old went 14 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner. She was a second up winner at Caulfield in the spring before going 14 lengths faster than standard when 3rd in the Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at the track and trip. With just 52kg on her back and a 5.5kg advantage over Imperatriz, the Jason Warren-trained galloper draws ideally and will be closing off strongly late.
