The first race is a classic 2yo handicap where you either have a strong opinion from private trials, or you play the one with a public piece of evidence and move on. I am taking the evidence horse: Borata’s Girl. She has at least put a number on the board with a third last start, and she also placed on her only visit to Wagga. Gate 4 keeps her out of trouble and J Penza can ride her like she belongs.
The danger is the one that can jump, find the fence, and make the rest chase: Piratess from barrier 1. In these baby races, an inside draw can turn an unknown into a problem very quickly, especially if the tempo stays moderate and it becomes a dash from the 400m.
Play: Small win bet Borata’s Girl. If you are playing exotics, keep Piratess safe because the map can do the talking in this grade.
Race 2: Finance Tycoon At Kooringal Country Boosted Showcase Mdn Plate — 13:19, 1094m
This is the sort of maiden where the market often over commits to one or two names and forgets how much traffic, barriers, and midrace decisions matter in a big field over a short trip. If I am backing one to run well, I want a run that is easy to picture, and that points me to Lord Limerick. He draws gate 4, he gets B McDougall, and McDougall’s Wagga profile is a real one: 28 rides here for 16 placings. That is a jockey who finds clear air and keeps a horse in the fight.
The threat is Chef’s Kiss on the same program. Matthew Dale can place one to win a maiden, and Nick Heywood’s Wagga record is solid enough to respect. If Chef’s Kiss has any intent to be on speed from gate 5, he can pinch a break and make the swoopers work for it.
If you want a knockout blow for your quaddie, Unicorn Dreaming gets the pole draw. Even with no exposed form here, barrier 1 at 1094m can manufacture a top three result when others are snagging and looping.
Play: Each-way Lord Limerick if the price is fair. If he gets backed into skinny odds in a field this size, keep it simple and just play him in the multiples with Chef’s Kiss.
Race 3: Finance Tycoon Country Boosted Showcase (Bm58) — 13:59, 1750m
The best betting race on the page is the 1750m Benchmark, because the profiles are clearer and the map looks more readable. I like Pure Melody to win. She is a 3yo with upside, she draws barrier 2 to land close without burning petrol, and she comes in off a form line that reads like a horse who has been building and then delivered: 4-3231. When you are dealing with a Benchmark 58, that last start win matters, because so many of these older horses are stuck in a loop of running okay without really going past.
The horse I am most worried about is Iconic Rose, because she is the proven Wagga piece of the puzzle. She won on her only start here, and her recent form reads like she is still competitive in this grade even if she is not in love with life every run: 97-166. She is drawn 9 though, so she either does work early or risks being posted, and that is the difference between winning and running fifth in these races.
Keep an eye on Endless Applause as well. Anthony Warren is a strong Wagga operator and this horse has been in and out of the winner’s stall lately. If the speed is on, he is the one who can stalk and pounce.

NAP: Pure Melody (Race 3, 13:59). The map is kind, the form line says she is on the way up, and she does not need luck from barrier 2.
Value: Lord Limerick (Race 2, 13:19) each-way. McDougall places often at Wagga from real volume, and this looks like the type of maiden where a soft run from a good gate beats a flashier name stuck wide.
