Race 3 No. 4 ASCENSION- ($4)

The grey gallopers do battle in the Subzero Handicap and like the form of both ASCENSION and Struck By. Leaning towards the Maher/Eustace import, Ascension, who was strong to the line on a Heavy 10 at Caulfield over the 1400m on Thousand Guineas day. He should enjoy a track with the sting out of it and has attracted early support. Spiked to produce a personal best of five lengths above standard last time and should have improvement to come, while John Allen can peel out at the right time from barrier 5.

Race 9 No. 5 HERESY– ($9)

HERESY can provide the UK jockey, William Buick, with a win in Race 9. The Godolphin galloper comes down to Melbourne for the first time since some solid efforts here last year and was 3rd behind Sky Command at Randwick in the Nivison (1200m) on October 8. She rattled home when third up at her autumn preparation to win at Group 3 level and will love a track with some give in it.

Race 5 No. 13 HALLSTATT- ($41)

Some promising three-year-olds tackle the 1000m in Race 5. Going for one at a bit of a price and that is the South Australian galloper, HALLSTATT. He had no luck early on before landing 3rd behind Fission and Field Of Flutes at the recently abandoned Moonee Valley night meeting and is value at the quote. Winner out of that went 5.4 lengths faster than standard, which are the best last start figures of any runner and the second best that any horse in this race has produced. Damien Oliver can tuck in behind them from barrier 14 and the pair should be strong late.
