The Australian Group 1 season
The season opens on 1 August. The Winx Stakes at Randwick is now the first Group 1 of the year, with the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield a week later. From there Sydney and Melbourne carry the spring, running twenty-eight Group 1 races between them before feature racing moves west to Ascot in late November.
Autumn belongs to Sydney. The Championships puts eight Group 1 races across two consecutive Saturdays at Randwick, and the Golden Slipper remains the richest two-year-old race in the world. Adelaide takes over in early May, then the Brisbane winter carnival closes the season with the Stradbroke Handicap and, last of all, the Tattersall's Tiara.
July is the only month with no Group 1 racing in Australia.
