The Meadows Greyhound Tips February 29
Race 8 – FANTA BALE SUPER STAYERS FINAL (725m) – 9:10pm
True Detective has the red rug once again following a 42.11 heat victory by 1.5 lengths over Here’s Tears who gets box two. Rajasthan is the likely leader in the race after posting a 4.82 early split which was a couple of lengths faster than True Detective and another length faster again than Here’s Tears.
Just Terms will be relying on her powerful finish to win the Fanta Bale Super Stayers Final. She settled around five lengths from them passing the finishing post the first time in the Zoom Top before rapidly making ground down the back to win by 4L. The Anthony Azzopardi-trained bitch was unlucky in her heat and flew home late to finish 1.5L from Red Rochelle. With better passage, she is the greyhound to beat.
True Detective is the main danger from the good box ahead of Here’s Tears and Rajasthan. Smaller hope to Rockstar Beav who has won four in a row.
Race 9 – TAB AUSTRALIAN CUP FINAL (525m) – 9:50pm
Connections of the winning greyhound will walk away with $300,000 and the race has opened right up with Whiskey Riot drawing box eight. He sizzled through his heat to record a 29.47 with a 6.5L victory. His first sectional was 5.00 which was the fastest. Hardaway Winnie posted a 5.02 early section and Aston Cade was 5.05.
Rank outsider Scatterbox doesn’t look good enough but his early speed could impact Whiskey Riot, especially after heading up the track early in the heat. Any contact with the favourite could be detrimental to his chances.
Aston Cade has won 10 of 26 starts and his 29.77 was the second fastest heat time. Trained by Andrea Dailly, Aston Cade has won seven from 15 over track and distance and looms as a strong contender. The $5.50 on offer represents value.
Hard Style Rico and Hardaway Winnie have each-way claims in the Australian Cup Final.
