Day 2 The Championships – Remaining Noms Released
Nominations for the three remaining races on Day 2 of The Championships are now online with a trio of unbeaten runners among them.
Nominations for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Sydney Cup, Australian Oaks, Queen Of The Turf, Arrowfield Sprint, Percy Sykes and Provincial championship have been available for weeks.
The three remaining races are the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes, Listed South Pacific and the Listed Fernhill Mile for the two-year-olds, a race that often sees the winner back-up into the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.
The Team Hawkes-trained Jump The Broom extended her unbeaten sequence to four when she scored first-up at The Valley. She now steps up to Group 2 level with a crack at the Sapphire Stakes. The race boasts an honour roll including Spinning Hill, Glamour Puss and Atlantic Jewel.
The South Pacific Classic was won by Group 1 winning sprinter Danleigh back in 2007 and this year Danleigh’s trainer Chris Waller has nominated a four-pronged attack on the Listed feature while the unbeaten Green Belt is expected to cross the border from Victoria for the Price-Kent stable.
Green Shadows was a surprise winner at Goulburn for Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou and is likely to go straight into the Fernhill Mile this weekend. One of the more interesting nominations for the Fernhill is Monfiducia for David Payne. The filly has never raced and was unplaced in her only trial.
