Sires’ barrier draw favours Slipper winner
Golden Slipper winner Fireburn will start from barrier four as she aims to become the first filly since the turn of the century to win the Golden Slipper – ATC Sires Produce double.
Fireburn came from well back to snare a second Golden Slipper for Gary Portelli and will give Brenton Avdulla his first Sires’ win should she prevail in Saturday’s $1 million juvenile feature.
Blue Diamond Stakes winner Daumier was fourth in the Slipper and has drawn barrier 11 in the 13-horse field while fellow Victorian Letsrollthedice will jump from gate 7 with Damian Lane in the saddle.
The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper ran fast time on a bog track first-up at Bendigo then improved to win at Group 2 level last time in the VRC Sires Produce. Yosei finished third in the VRC Sires Produce before winning the ATC version in 2010.
An interesting runner is Warby, who was second on debut in the Listed Black Opal down in Canberra and will go straight to Group 1 level with John Allen in the pigskin.
