BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 : No. 2 CAIRNDOW ($4.60 with Palmerbet)
The Barry Lockwood-trained CAIRNDOW failed to handle the city class contest at Eagle Farm but back to country racing today, looks well placed to bounce back here. Last start, the Animal Kingdom gelding came off a big win in Class 4 company at Gatton when he stepped up sharply in distance and faced a strong BM75 field at the Farm. The 2400m saw him out that day, finishing down the track. He still set a new personal best, running the trip out, 1.8 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here by more than 5 lengths. Robbie Fradd rode him to victory in that 1600m contest at Gatton and is back here today for another crack at it. Already a two-time winner over the mile, he should appreciate the drop in distance and class today and will take beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 : No. 6 MOUNT ZION ($7.50 with Palmerbet)
The locally-trained MOUNT ZION showed an instant liking to his home track on debut and looks well placed for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Wicked Style gelding made his long-awaited debut to racing (as a five-year-old) and surprised plenty (as an $18 chance) by destroying his rivals in a 1400m Maiden. Despite drawing wide that day (gate 10 of 14), Brooke Ainsworth timed her run on him to perfection and raced away to win by more than three lengths on the line. He recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals in the race as well. Ainsworth sticks with him today and from gate three, he is drawn to do no early work. The step up in distance should prove to be no problem, based on his winning margin last start. With a clear run to the line, he can give this contest a real shake today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3 : No. 5 YUPPIE ($11 with bet365)
The Lindsay Hatch-trained YUPPIE is in great touch this time in and looks set to make his Beaudesert debut a winning one. Last start, the Toorak Toff gelding came off his Maiden win at Toowoomba when he finished just behind the placegetters in a BM0-62 over 1300m at the same track. He still ran a personal best that night, covering the trip, 2.5 lengths slower than benchmark, the best here. He drops back to the 1100m trip today where he is already a winner and has the services of Brad Stewart for the first time. Ideally drawn in gate five, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and will have every chance from there to score. He looks well worth an each-way ticket here.
