Our form expert provides Doomben tips for Saturday’s horse racing at Doomben Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1:  No.11  SELF INDULGENT  ($4.20 with Neds)

The Tony Gollan-trained SELF INDULGENT is third-up here and looks a big chance of going back-to-back again in this contest. Last start, the Foxwedge mare came off a first-up failure and turned it all around when she easily accounted for a BM72 Hcp, here over 1200m. Drawn wide that day (11 of 12), Cejay Graham crossed early and had her in the one-one, then took over at the 100m and went on to win by more than a length on the line. She meets similar company here and unbeaten in two previous third-up appearances, she is well and truly on the dancefloor again and will take beating.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8:  No.9  AFT CABIN  ($6 with Palmerbet)

To the big one of the day and while Giga Kick dominates the market and is currently ‘in the red’, however he may not get things his own way here as I am running with the Godolphin galloper AFT CABIN to get the better of proceedings and cause an upset here. Last start, the Astern colt bounced back off consecutive unplaced runs (the only two in his racing career) and finished best to take out the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint on a heavy track at Randwick over the 1200m trip. James McDonald steered him to victory that day, after being on board when he won the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m), also on the Randwick track. He is drawn inside Giga Kick and maps to settle in the first half-dozen. J.Mac sticks with him here and with a trouble-free run to the turn, he is capable of ‘pinching’ this in the run to the line.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.2  THE VOWELS  ($6.10 with BoomBet)

Only four runners under double-figures here tells a story in itself as we run with the Team Edmunds-trained THE VOWELS who is six wins from ten starts and looks well placed here to bring up another one. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding had a nice picket fence alongside his name, winning five-straight until the run was ended when he arrived too late and had to settle for third prize in the Group 2 QLD Guineas over 1600m. It was a mighty effort considering he drew the carpark in gate 15 and settled a dozen lengths off the lead that day. He draws much better here in gate seven and maps to settle near mid-field. Closer to the speed here, he gets every chance to make amends in this contest.
