BEST BET 🏆
Race 8: No.6 FIDDLERS GREEN
The Annabel Neasham-trained FIDDLERS GREEN is second-up here and looks well placed here for a big effort today. Last start, the Merchant Navy gelding resumed off a lengthy 21-week absence and did well to beat all but one home in a BM64, here over 1400m. Chad Schofield had him settled one out, one back with the drop on the leaders. Inside the final 200m he took the lead (briefly) but his condition gave out and he was passed and beaten home by the race favourite (Field Marshal), leaving him with second prize. The three-year-old is already a winner when second-up (winning his maiden on this track) and from gate five today, maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Schofield steers the ship again and fitter today, the galloper should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.4 PARADE GROUND
The James Cummings-trained PARADE GROUND is second-up today (for the first time) and fitter for his return to the track, can figure here in this contest. Last start, the well-bred Epaulette gelding was given the run of the race by Zac Lloyd (one out, one back) and after taking over inside the last 200m, looked home but was grabbed by one better on the day in a 1200m Maiden at Kembla Grange. The step-up in trip today looks ideal for him as Lloyd remains the pilot for this assignment. He has drawn wide again but with good early gate speed, he maps to settle in the first half dozen again. In an open affair today, he can get the job done.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.9 ALLAPERCANTO
Team Hawkes saddle-up ALLAPERCANTO here who has found the podium in all four career starts to date and resuming today, looks set to continue that trend in this contest. Last start, the Per Incanto filly ended her first preparation by beating all but one to the line in a strong BM72 over 1550m on Randwick’s Kensington track. With Zac Lloyd aboard (for his third ride on the galloper), she box-seated to the 200m mark and after being held up to that point, found clean air and took ground of the leader but arrived too late and had to settle for second prize. She’s had 19 weeks in the paddock but trialled earlier this month and finished a close-up third of the nine runners. She finished second on debut so the fresh start isn’t a big concern. Lloyd steers the ship again and with a trouble-free run today, she can give this a real shake.
