Sandown Tips 6/8/2023

BEST BET 🏆 (WIN)

Race 1 No. 6 ELDERBERRY- ($5.10)

Nice race to kick off with some promising three-year-olds in action. ELDERBERRY claimed her maiden at Moe two starts ago then was sent to Caulfield for a Saturday race and performed well over the 1200m, finishing 3rd behind Spicy Margs. The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained galloper settled back in a slowly run race that day before producing the fastest last 400m and 200m. She comes in with four weeks in between runs and should be within striking distance from barrier 5 in the small field.

NEXT BEST 🥈 (WIN)

Race 3 No 10 MAGNACE- ($8.50)

MAGNACE should find this easier than a last start effort that saw him finish 10th at Flemington over the 1700m. That came in a $150,000 3YO and he settled handy but couldn’t quite go with the likes of Albanian I Am in a race that has produced two winners. The four-year-old was an ear winner at Werribee prior to that and did go 6.5 lengths faster than standard at his recent run, which is a better figure than what any runner in this race has produced. Back in grade and with Blake Shinn in the saddle from barrier 2, he is right in this.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 6 KIMBERLEY PEARL- ($8)

Promising performance by KIMBERLEY PEARL at her first run back from a spell and the Maher/Eustace galloper can go a few spots better here with any improvement. The four-year-old stepped out at the Lakeside circuit on July 12 and settled in a midfield position before closing off steadily for 4th behind Coriolis. Worth noting that the 2nd and 3rd horses have since come out and won. Kimberley Pearl went 5.8 lengths faster than standard last time, which is the best last start figure of any runner and the second best that any horse in this race has produced. Second up last time she improved four lengths on figures. Blinkers go on and just needs an ounce of luck from the wide barrier.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 8 No 7 ROGUE ROCKER- ($13.20)

Best Value comes up in the final race and willing to have something on the former Queensland galloper, ROGUE ROCKER. The six-year-old stepped out here for his first run of his current preparation on July 5, settling back in the field of nine before reeling off the fastest last 400m and 200m to fill the exacta behind Do Ya Punk. He went a healthy 9.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark that day. Second up last time, the son of Dissident improved eight lengths on figures to place at Doomben. Pace for this looks solid up front and in front of him and that should suit.
